For my devices in the past that used Gorilla glass, it doesn't stand up that well, out of the past five times I've dropped a phone using Gorilla glass its shattered 4 times. It mainly meant to resist the scratching, from common items

Ugh! I was hoping it would be safe to have a naked screen since the cheap screen protector I got off EBay always bubbles.

"Gorilla" is made by Corning glass company and is on devices like the Razr. The GN does not have "Gorilla". Just FYI

Haha I've been very unlucky in 2011. This all happened in one year, dropped my tablet (3 times) on average a distance of 4 feet onto tiles and shattered. lol. Hopefully 2012 will be better for me

this company makes a case for the iPad or other tablets...
you can drop a bowling ball from 4 feet directly on the
screen and it will not have a scratch.... too bad they don't
make a small one for smartphones!

Screen protectors don't do squat for drops. They just prevent scratches. Personally, I always run naked (but then I never put my phone in a hip pocket with keys etc.)

Best way I've found to prevent drops is to buy insurance.

Well, I use a case. A screen protector might help depending on how bad the drop was. It wouldn't prevent a complete shatter, but more minor drops wouldn't cause scratches.

Also, the GN doesn't have Gorilla glass?

No, the Galaxy Nexus uses an unbranded fortified glass more scratch resistant than normal glass but not completely scratch proof

gorilla glasses are scratch resistance not against shock.

atm there's shortage for corning's gorilla glass. (mainly due too increased demand for smartphones with larger display and tablets)
so apple's Ipad2 went for asahi's glass but had to go back to corning after earthquake.

about samsung's product, anything that has curuved glass arent corning's gorilla glass (its much tougher to cut it curved for gorilla glass even tho corning showed curved gorilla glass last year so still its yeild rate is low to mass produce).

smartphone/tablets with flat screen has gorill glass. low cost cellphones/tablet (like alessi tab) has usually soda lime glass.

about GNex's fortified glass, im pretty sure they used Digitecsystem's fortified glass. (its enhenced sodalime glass just like asahi's dragontrail,)

I don't use screen protectors on the GNex because the screen is already amazing without them.. I did just recently purchase the otter box case and it is absolutely amazing. Don't think I will ever drop it but always good to have just in case.

Does anyone have any experience with the GN's resistance to scratches?
