Today while attempting to use Google Music songs were pausing every 5 seconds to stream which usually doesn't happen. I decided to take a peek in the Phone Information menu by dialing *#*#4636#*#* to check to see if I was on the correct network type. Turns out I wasn't (for some odd reason?) so I tried switching it and when that didn't work I went back in a fiddled with some of the other settings in the menu. Long story short I managed to reset the SMSC (necessary for SMS) and the settings saved. When I try to change them they will not save. So now I'm stuck on the wrong network type and have no SMSC number so I cannot send texts. I've fiddled with all the settings, tried reboots, etc. The settings won't save. I reeaaallllyyy do not want to do a reset. Can anyone verify that their settings in the menu save upon exit or have a solution to this? I have the GSM version by the way. Thanks.

That happened to me this past weekend and almost wanted to break my phone lol. I removed the sim card and rebooted---something like that and then everything went back to normal.

haha thats how I feel right now. But I didnt even think to try that, unfortunately that did not solve the problem. I'm getting very frustrated.

Easy move is to just factory reset and see if it fixes.

So I contacted Samsung about it.. long story short they said it was out of their realm of support and could do nothing about it because it was a "network related issue." She advised me to contact my carrier because the setting could be locked by them. Could the setting be locked by my sim card? I'm leaning towards no because on my Nexus One (same sim card) I was able to change the setting. Any thoughts?

Ask for a new sim card, they are free.

Okay sim card has been ruled out. I can successfully and permanetly change the network type on my moms sensation, and I tried her sim card in my phone and still had no luck. Could this be a firmware error on Samsungs part or something of that nature?

I'm trying to use WCDMA preferred but the setting is stuck on GSM/CMDA Auto (PRL)
