Line across galaxy nexus screen when turned off?
Hello Guys,
I recently purchased a Galaxy nexus, and noticed a line across the screen when it is turned off. It isn't something on the screen, nor is it a scratch. I only noticed this when put directly under a light source, not during normal use. It is located a little higher than mid-way on the screen, and just looks like a thin band across the screen. This is when the screen is off and directly under a lamp.
Is this a defect with the screen? Or do all G-Nexuses have this particular problem? - 03-13-2012, 09:50 PM

I think it's just a thick sensor line that wasn't mean't to be noticed haha. I can only see it literally when its a inch below a lamp at a specific angle. I can't see it in a regularly lit room nor in sunlight. Odd. I'm still curious if others have this line.

Re: Line across galaxy nexus screen when turned off?
Well I spoke to a Samsung technical support agent via their livechat, and the agent I spoke with said that the band is due to the proximity sensor and is not a defect with my screen. Apparently, the line is only visible due to really high light exposure which explains why I can only see it literally under a lamp and not in a regularly lit room. I'm going to get another agent's input to make sure that information was correct.

Re: Line across galaxy nexus screen when turned off?
I tried taking a Maglite to my phone while the screen was off but it came up totally blank. No lines or anything. Are you sure your screen was totally off and not just black? These screens have serious artifacts on 100% black screens, you can see dark spots, lines and even what appears to be image burn ins.
Well either way, I'm positive theres no lines on my screen while it is turned off
sorry man.

Yeah my screen was totally off. Odd. Oh well.. it doesn't really bother me because I can't see it unless I'm REALLY looking for it, and even then, I can't really see it lol.
Outside, inside during everyday usage looks perfectly fine. I can really only see it if the screen is sparkly clean and under a insane amount of light (I can't even see it in direct sunlight) and the screen attracts fingerprints like crazy so I won't be able to see it anyways.
I don't think I'm going to exchange it because I don't want to risk getting a even worse phone with dead pixels, backlight bleeding or that horrible banding I've heard about. Everything on this phone is great! - 03-14-2012, 05:15 PM #6Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on Verizon

Hahaha yeah. The time wasted traveling back and forth would be the worst.. I had a friend spend 4 hours driving back and forth to exchange his HTC sensation. Each one had a SLIGHT problem that wouldn't have bothered me at all.. guess some people are just really picky. I got mine at a discounted rate... so can't complain haha.

Re: Line across galaxy nexus screen when turned off?
what it might be is the curve of the glass. the curve starts about midway through the screen, just above where the gold contacts are on the side, and the changing angle might cause the light to refract weirdly and look like a defect.

Re: Line across galaxy nexus screen when turned off?
Hmm yeah that might be it. Do you see it on your phone too? I didn't even know the nexus's glass was curved haha. It just looks like a thin band across the screen.. I have to kind of angle it to really see it.
What is really weird is that I went to a Verizon store today to compare to the store model.. and couldn't see it on both my device and the display model. I saw the line on mine under heavy lighting.. and I didn't want to bring a lamp with me to compare (awkward). I can't see it at all during normal usage.. and it doesn't seem to affect screen quality at all. I would have thought that there would be a line across my screen where it was darker than the surround area.. but that doesn't seem to be the case. - 03-16-2012, 12:26 AM

**UPDATE
I think you might be right. I just did a test where my eyes were perpendicular to where the lines are, and can't see them at all haha. This was done under the same lamp where I first saw the problem. However, if I tilt the phone about 45 degrees or so.. I can see it. This must be because of reflection and not a screen defect haha. - 03-19-2012, 11:45 PM #11

I have a line on my screen as well, it's not a scratch and its underneath. It can only be seen when held at a certain angle under light. I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus though.

Yeah I have a GSM GNexus also. Glad I'm not the only one with this problem.

Re: Line across galaxy nexus screen when turned off?
Well mine is in a straight line, not curved in that picture. And its honestly not noticeable. Unless it really bothers you, I wouldn't recommend exchanging it. The next unit could always have backlight bleeding or even worse, dead pixels. Then you would have a REAL problem.
