Haha! That's funny.
I've been dying to use Google Wallet, I have yet to find a convenient place to use it. The gas station I frequent has it on their cash register and I went in there excited that I finally get to use some NFC powered android goodness when they popped my balloons with the sad news it wasn't working. :'(Quote:

So now I have money in there that I seemingly can't use.

Micky D's, Jack-in-the-box, CVS, and possibly Walgreens have been the only places I've found. Home Depot used to, but the stores near me seem to be removing their PayPass hardware.
I hope ISIS takes off; I'd prefer a system that has more than CITI/MasterCard supporting it. That's really what keeps me from using Wallet; I'd rather tie it to real card than use the pre-paid card that has to be reloaded. And I don't have any CITI cards... :(
i hate to say this but the iphone 5 if it has NFC will help us out. because thats when all the stores will go to it cause apple said do it. i really dislike apple :)
Yup. I've been frustrated by lack of places to use my Google Wallet. I think that "pay with your phone" won't take off until there's a big user base demanding it - which probably means that Apple is in the drivers seat - GRRR.....
If they don't add Amex its a fail for me.
So I walk into Chevron to get some gas, see the pay pass on top of the register and think cool. Run my phone across it and it clears with no hiccups. The girl looks at me like I just hacked into their system saying "what was that, what did you do" !?!? I'm smiling and tell her "back to the future"! She starts looking around and searches for the manager and their looking at me like I'm trying to rob them, he then tells me " we can't except that payment" and I'm beside myself now asking the dude "then what's all this pay pass deal doing on top of your register if your not excepting pay pass"!!! He yells back saying that only cards with the pay pass can be used there and I'm looking at him thinking what a dumb %uck! By then I notice a line forming behind me and the guy behind me just shrugs his shoulders and says " There're not up with the times", that calmed me down and I could just only laugh then, payed with cash and walked out shaking my head. Oh well, I'm shopping more often at MacDonald s now cause they serve you with a smile and oh yea, they except Google Wallet! : D

half the places in my town don't even have readers for chipped cards yet. And I only know of a very few places that use PayPass. So even if Google Wallet gets released for Canada it will be a while yet before I can even use it.... except maybe at my favorite coffee shop (and of course McD's
There are a few places I use it, I'm just as surprised at the cashiers reactions as they are at seeing it used.
Have more fun with NFC and order some tags and download a tag writer app, I'm using NFC Tag Writer. Stick 'em around the house or in your car, always be sure to ask your iPhone friends to "use" the tag. :)
Funny how people are scared of technolgy. LOL at Back to the futureQuote:

You may want to take a look at this [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]
Visa and MasterCard have both mandated that their United States payment systems comply with EMV standards by 2015. While this does not necessarily include NFC, it does provide an incentive for POS terminals to allow for it, since an infrastructure change is imminent. We will see contact chip cards very soon appearing stateside, and if one major bank decides to migrate to a dual interface solution your terminals will start accepting our NFC payments soon thereafter. Hang on, it is coming! This is the one major reason I bought an Galaxy Nexus over the One X!
If it cleared and accepted, did they refund the money? Sounds like you double-paid?Quote:

They denied the purchase after the fact, was worried about myself but Google Wallet app keeps a record(statements) and it shows as pending, which means they indeed canceled the purchase.Quote:

EDITED: Found a solution if your having trouble with Google Wallet transactions. This especially applies to those who flash roms. You'll need to erase data within the app itself, found in settings/applications/Wallet Google, just erase all data. Then sign back into Google Wallet when you open the app again. Worked for me, hope this helps.

I feel you...over 4 weeks now and I still do not have my promotional credit from sprint. And money network is just all kinds of ....I will refrain from saying much more. In all fairness I called Google and they at least sent me an email and sent my case to a specialist. Will see what happens.

Just did my first purchase via NFC! :)
I gotta say, despite the technology being nothing new and used in Japan for like 8 yrs now... it was still so cool to use. This so needs to go widespread.
Oh - and McDick here too ;)
PS - those without CITI cards can load up the google prepaid card. That's what I used
Congrats, To bad NFC is still just a concept here in the States, got any airplane tickets to Japan you don't need? :pQuote:

I tried Google Wallet for the first time yesterday at a McDs near me and the Mgr was a total jerk about the whole thing.
I placed my phone on the receiver end (not sure of the proper term) of the CC machine and my phone said sent or something like that. He then asked what I was doing and I explained I am using Google wallet to pay for my Large Diet Coke and a Yogurt Parfait, "well it looks like to me you are hacking the system". I assured him that I was doing no such thing and that it was completely legal and indeed a receipt came out of the register which he handed me.
I was given my order and I sat down to eat, about 5 minutes later a Police Officer comes over to me and asks to speak with me for a moment. He asks to see my phone and wants to know if I had modified it in any way as the Mgr said I somehow hacked his system. I explain that it is completely stock as I purchased it from Google and that Google (not me) included this piece of software Google Wallet and technology called NFC which allows me to use my phone like a CC to pay for item that accept MasterCard PayPass.
The Officer seemed unsure of the entire thing and asked again if I had modified the phone in any way, to which I again said no. I said, look, use your iPhone (which I saw on his belt) and go to Google and search for Google Wallet. Added to that since I had used my Citi MasterCard to pay for the purchase I offered to call Citi and have them speak with the Office and state they see a transaction from McD for the place and time of the transaction, I had nothing to hide and was willing to cooperate.
The Office did use his iPhone and did search for Google Wallet and went and spoke with the McD manager and after a few minutes came back to me and said that he explained to the Mgr that it seemed legitimate, but that in the future the Mgr would prefer that I pay with Cash or a physical CC, not my phone.
So, just be careful some people do not like the idea just yet and might like my experience call the Police to investigate.
Dan
I love it when people who don't know what they are talking about are always so sure they are correct. These stories are crazy. As a business owner, it is your job to be educated on these types of technologies, and educate your staff on them as well.

Wow your better person then I am. I would have told him to either arrest me for a crime or kiss off! Let me eat my food in piece! You did get a receipt right? All the info is right on it...Quote:

No offense to managers of McDonalds but I would not hesitate to say, based on my perception of those at our local establishments, that they aren't exactly the "shining stars" of my community. I'm not surprised to hear that low level, customer facing managers are suspicious of this technology. Likewise for the quick stops. It's a living but for them but adapting to technology that their consumers are using is quite difficult. I remember the short time period where the thought of entering a pin number at the pos was unfathomable. Within what seems like only a few months everybody accepted it and moved on and now it is second nature and more common than cash. The unfortunate thing is that the previous poster above was right about apple or a widespread community backing will continue to slow the adoption of this.... So go apple?
