I am using the APN settings that were in the red book, I do include the proxy setting. Have you used another carrier's SIM card in the phone? Mine used a T Mobile one for week so I think that is why the factory reset was needed.

Just thought I would give my resolution to this. I have since switched back to a 4s and couldn't get my mms working on it either ( i did the jailbreak tether me method). Turns out, it had something to do with the network. I called straight talk and told them I had switched sims around and knew it was a problem with my account /network. He did something and told me to take the sim out for 60 and put back in and everything works as it should. I dreaded calling them, but I actually got someone who spoke pretty good English!!

    Hello,
I will post my resolution to this problem... I called straight talk and they said to put in this setting for MMS proxy : mms2.tracfone.com

not the 66.209.11.33 setting that other sources say.
Save the setting... I have to reboot the phone for the change to take effect.

Just want to let everyone know ... the above solution (changing MMS proxy from 66.209.11.33 to mms2.tracfone.com then rebooting the phone) worked fine for me too. Thanks evansmichaelj! I was pulling my hair out :/

someone at straight talk fat-fingered the settings on the instruction page....
THE CORRECT MMS PROXY FOR SENDING MMS IS 66.209.11.32 (not 66.209.11.33)

if you ping the mms2.tracfone.com, it resolves to 66.209.11.32

    apn type = default,supl,mms

but im pretty sure if u just enter in apn type using an asterix "*" (no quotes, just a *) it will cover everything
