battery charge % going up even after disconnecting charger
I have galaxy nexus.
Today morning I put my gnex for charging and when I removed it from charger I looked at battery charging % and it was showing 90%. After one hour, I checked again, and it was showing 91%. I checked again after around 2 hour and now it is showing 92%.
Is battery keeps on getting charged even after removing it from charger, or is it just wrong information about battery charge that is being shown. - 07-26-2012, 03:47 PM #2

Re: battery charge % going up even after disconnecting charger
Its probably a bug, I don't see a phone charging itself without actually being charged.

Do you have stock JB, or have a ROM that offers a % mod?OG Droid

I had a similar problem, but I don't think it was exactly the same. My GNex was indicating that it was charging even though it was unplugged. The indicator in the top right of the screen was showing the lightning symbol. The screen was turning on and off because it kept going back and forth between charging and not charging. I had to send the device back to Samsung. Hopefully, they can get it fixed.

Re: battery charge % going up even after disconnecting charger
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, if your phone continues this, be on the look out for the infamous Galaxy Nexus phantom charging faulty USB port hardware issue. In short, what happens is, because Samsung uses such a cheap part, the little nub inside the USB port on your phone gets pushed down after plugging and unplugging the phone, and starts to physically touch the bottom of the phone itself. It causes the phone to believe it is plugged in and charging, even when it's not plugged in at all. Eventually this gets so bad that the phone's screen begins lighting up by itself, and when you press the power button to turn the screen off, mere seconds later it re-lights, quickly draining your battery until it's nothing but pulp. Here's my thread on it here at AC, though only 2-3 people replied back then: http://forums.androidcentral.com/goo...ng-itself.html
I, too, had to return my first Galaxy Nexus from the Play store to Samsung because of this huge issue. The issue is well-documented over here:
To save you having to read the enormous thread over there, the main fix is to manually (and GENTLY) push the nub back up a little, away from touching the phone. Most people tried doing this with a toothpick and had luck. Some people did it and ended up breaking the nub off. You have to be very gentle and patient. The other thing you can do is buy and replace that part yourself, which some claim is easy to do, and there are instructions I can give you if you choose that route. Other option: Return to Samsung for a replacement. That's what I ended up doing. So far, haven't had the issue return (yet).
I realize your problem is not to the level that mine was (and many others' were), but I'm giving you this information in case it reaches there soon. Mine started off as simply phantom charging, too, and I thought it was funny and that was it. Unfortunately, that didn't last too long before "funny" became "absolutely unusable and frustrating as hell".Last edited by jonneh; 07-28-2012 at 02:11 PM.

Re: battery charge % going up even after disconnecting charger
Thanks for the post. I actually do have this problem, which is why I sent it to Samsung. Samsung gave my phone to an approved third party and they inspected it and said my phone had liquid damage. I am calling bs. These guys are lying. They sent me an quote for repairs of $150 because liquid damage means phone is out of warranty. If I decline to get it repaired, they are saying they will charge me $30 for "assessment." I can't even believe this and I am pretty mad about this situation. This amounts to blackmail because I was never told I was going to have to pay for shipping the phone back if it was found to be out of warranty. Samsung basically washed their hands off of the device the minute I had shipped it and everytime I called thereafter to follow up, they told me to contact the third party becasuse they had no idea.

Re: battery charge % going up even after disconnecting charger
So, I finally got my phone back unrepaired because the "liquid damage" meant the phone was out of warranty. If you still have instructions on how to repair this USB port, I would appreciate it if you could post it here. You are right, the little nub is bent downward and is touching or almost touching the bottom of the port. I haven't had much luck trying to push it up with a toothpick and I am afraid I might break it.

Re: battery charge % going up even after disconnecting charger
I'm still looking for the instructions I saw on a webpage somewhere, but in the meantime you can buy one of these off ebay:
or here:
- you'll need to replace this part of your phone.
Also, if you ever have an hour or so to sit at your computer and read through a whole ton of crap, I really suggest reading through (skimming, at least) as it holds all of the information. The problem is it is a little disorganized due to other users randomly chiming in sometimes with unrelated issues than the one we are discussing here, or claiming they magically fixed it by doing something like rebooting the phone. Anything like that - if it works - is just an extremely limited fix that won't last 24 hrs most likely, and has been reported countless times. Eventually the screen coming on constantly gets so constant that nothing works except fixing the problem at its source: which means bending that nub away from touching the bottom of the phone gently using a toothpick or tweezers, or replacing the part inside.
I can't seem to find the correct page from the past, but here is a guide for the CDMA version. However, if the disassembly or usb port is different, I don't know...
The pictures are on the left, and the step-by-step is on the right side of the pictures (kind of hidden if you aren't looking).
EDIT: Found a better guide here -
I also found a site that claims to repair it for you for a cost...never heard of something like this before (apparently they will also root you or install a new ROM for you if you want to pay more? lol):
If you're going the fix it yourself route, I'd go ahead and buy the cheap part and while waiting for it to ship, if your phone is pretty much unusable now anyway, really try bending the "tongue" or "nub" more, just as a temp fix.
Amazing if you do a quick google search for something along the lines of "Samsung galaxy nexus usb port replacement" or "Samsung galaxy nexus usb port issue" what results you get. The first 2 or 3 pages are filled with stuff. Pretty prominent issue if you ask me, but, others here still try to disagree. It's all over XDA as well.Last edited by jonneh; 08-19-2012 at 09:08 PM.

Re: battery charge % going up even after disconnecting charger
Well I'm in this boat to. After spending over an 45 minustes with both Samsung US and UK. I am basically SOL with them since the US sent me to UK since the imei was there. Then UK said they couldn't do the repair since it was bought on Amazon and not UK proper. In other words yes we know you have a problem but drop dead otherwise. Great way to stand behind your product. At this point my only other option is to get the part. Thankfully I do tear apart pc's regularly so doing this will not be easy but not intimidating either. Just one big piece of Cr@p I have to go through.
