Default Why doesn't google displacy the numerical battery percentage?

I have had this question before ics came out last year. Even after JB, we still have to either root or install a 3rd party app to see the numerical percentage of the battery in the status bar

I do not know why google would not offer this "simple but important" feature

I honestly have no clue about how much of the battery is left when I look at the battery icon

I've had the same question also. That is the one feature I wish we had.

I'm not sure why Google doesn't have that built into the phone, but, you can get an app that will tell you the numerical battery percentage.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because smartphone battery usage isn't exactly very linear. Meaning that how long your phone lasts varies widely with your usage, and there are so many factors going into battery life. Having a battery % in the bar doesn't really give you a very good indication of how much more time you have left on the battery. 50% battery on my GNex could mean as much as 10 hours of battery life left, or as short as 2 hours depending on what I'm doing

Back when I was more interested in rooting and ROMing my device, I thought I absolutely had to have battery % in my status bar. I realized eventually I spent more time (and therefore battery) worrying about my % rather than just using my device. Removing % from the status bar actually improved my battery life overall.

So overall I'm sure it'd be nice to have for those who want it, but I'm pretty happy with a bar that shows 100%, 90%, 75%, 50%, 25%, 15% and 5% levels.

If you can glean that much detail from the stock battery icon, you are much better than me sir.
