Default Another Newbie ex iPhone user

Hello Everyone...to all my new friends...I made the leap..I feel like I was in the Matrix!
I just purchased the Samsung Galaxy Nexus direct from Google. I am planning on getting a sim from AT&T here locally. Does anyone have good advice to get me started off on the right track? I have not ever used Android but I am excited after looking at countless You Tube videos, it all looks impressive

The best advise IMHO is to read up on the forums as much as you can to prepare yourself for potential problems you may have. When you get it just plan some free time to mess around with it and explore everything. Having just switched back from iPhone myself to the galaxy nexus, you will find jelly bean easy to use or the most part. The menus aren't as nicely laid out as iOS but they are self explanatory.

If modding is your cup of tea I would recommend heading over to XDA forums. The modding knowledge here is vast but I've found that most problems that you can't find an answer for here can be solved there.

The Galaxy Nexus is a great phone. Congrats on your purchase.

All these posts about problems, when I would just say to enjoy the phone as much as you can

I feel like it's easy to fall into a trap in which you have read about all the "bad things" that can be wrong with the GNex, that you spend most of your time looking and worrying about problems, rather than enjoying the mini computer you have I'm your hands :-) let us know what your thoughts of the phone are when you get it!

I'm in the same boat as you and I would advise to take it slow. Play with Android before you start getting into heavy customizing installing all kinds of tweaks. I just got into that some this past weekend and it can get really crazy.

Start by gathering all your favorite apps.

^^This. I convinced a friend to get this phone as well in May, and he is new to smart phones entirely. I've been rooting and using ROMs since the original Droid, but I've specifically told him I wouldn't help him with any of that for at least a few months. There is a lot to learn, and a lot to do with the phone without having to try new ROMs. Just enjoy Google in this mater piece, and when you feel you want something more, ease your way through!

Best advice: start small and feel free to experiment.

If you're looking for an iOS-like feel, you can load your home page up with app shortcuts. Otherwise, they are always there in the app drawer.

Your first Home Screen widgets will probably be something simply like clock and weather. Beautiful Widgets make some really nice looking clock/date/weather widgets.

From there you'll graduate to news, mail, twitter, etc.

Try a Live Wallpaper to wow yourself. Aquarium is a popular one. Once you have that running in the background you'll see just how different Android can be to iOS.

Don't expect to understand everything in your new phone. There are a lot of options for Android, but you don't need to use every one. You don't have to root or custom Mod your Android phone to make it usable.

Wow a great device, does everything I need and more. The device upgraded to JB 4.1.1 and Its fast, smooth doesn't have that lag feeling I had with my iphone. the Google now works great, except I am having trouble with cards displaying, and at the bottom of the screen where "more google cards" button is supposed to be there is nothing... its like something is missing. I have followed everything I can search, you tube and forums to find out how to get this piece corrected buit so far nothing...Over all I give it an 8 so far.
