16GB Storage on the Galaxy Nexus
Hi,
I am thinking of buying myself the Galaxy Nexus to replace my old non-Android smartphone. A very quick question to those who own this phone is - is 16GB of storage enough for apps?
I would have at the very most - 100 apps installed. Would this be enough? I don't keep music or photos on the phone so I think that's good to keep space available.
I'd be really grateful to hear experiences with 16GB storage!
Thank you. - 09-06-2012, 02:46 AM #2

I have a Nexus running currently about 120 apps. I also have a movie and a few albums of music. My phone says I have 1.3GB left in memory off the 13GB.
Initially I didnt think it enough cause i was on 32GB Nokia N900 but i really wanted the Nexus! You can make it work! 16GB is enough

Re: 16GB Storage on the Galaxy Nexus
It will be enough for your apps since you won't be keeping media on it. I have 168 apps and 8GB free. I don't have music, movies, and only have 5 pictures on my phone. I do have several work documents on it however but I use small memory filetypes like txt, pdf, etc for files I will keep on my phone. Now apps are different sizes of course and yours could be more or less, but you won't run out of memory from 100 apps - only if you download other large files on your phone. Most people run out of room because of large media files.

Thank you for your replies!
It seems that I'll be fine with the storage
I'm pleased!
I don't think I'd have more than 100 apps at the very, very most installed so I think I wouldn't even come close to using all the storage up. - 09-06-2012, 02:30 PM #7

Re: 16GB Storage on the Galaxy Nexus
I was kind of worried about the storage myself coming from an Inspire with a 32GB SD card. But as long as you do not get carried away with to much Music and Videos as well as apps you will be fine. I have about 180 apps and 5 or 6 music albums and a couple of Videos on mine and still have over 5GBs of storage left.

I've got 120 Apps installed plus another 16 games, a couple episodes of TV shows & a bunch from Google Music saved for use offline - I've got roughly 3GB left so you should be fine.

Re: 16GB Storage on the Galaxy Nexus
I am suffering with my 16GB, but you would have to pry it out of my cold dead hands before I would give it up for anything other then a new one(Preferably with 32GB+sd)

Its just enough for me to get by, just need to clean out my home vids and pics every month.

Re: 16GB Storage on the Galaxy Nexus
Thanks everyone for your replies! Yeah I think it will do me very well considering I don't use music and photos on my phone!
Also, with jelly bean installed, what is the total amount of space available?
Thanks! - 09-08-2012, 02:45 PM #14

16GB Storage on the Galaxy Nexus
When you buy movies and music through the Google Play Store, are they stored in the cloud? Meaning, are they stream only?

Re: 16GB Storage on the Galaxy Nexus
No, they are not stream-only. You have the option to leave them in the cloud (and stream them) or view/listen offline (for times when you don't have a connection/wifi). If you choose to listen offline (hit the push-pin icon), the movie/music will download in the background until it is resident on your phone. You won't find the file anywhere (it's kept in a hidden/encrypted location). You will notice your available space will decrease accordingly (even though you can't find the downloaded files).
You also have the option to set the music/movies app to limit downloads/streaming to wifi-only, so you don't burn up your data allowance (if you're not on an unlimited plan).--Inspector Gadget

Re: 16GB Storage on the Galaxy Nexus
Are you planning on rooting. I've found that nandroid backups and app backups with Titanium Backup take up a lot of space. Althought if you don't store a lot of media, I suspect that you'll be fine.
