    Post Google Voice recognition Help

Does anybody know how to get google's voice recognition to recognize a friend's name? For example I want to call/text a friend but Google keeps thinking i'm saying something else. Is there any way to program the name in so google can recognize it as a name?

I own the Galaxy Nexus GSM version.

I dont think there is a way to add it but in voice settings there is something called "personalized recognition"

    Open Google Now-->Menu-->Settings-->Voice-->Check personalized recognition

it will learn from your voice.

also, to call or txt this is how you should say "call [name in your contact]" "Text [name in your contact] [message]" "email [name in your contact] [email message]"

Thank you for your input, I have changed the settings as you have stated.
I tried saying "send text to [friend's name]" and google now keeps changing it to "send text to a realist, send text to artist, send text to a religious.etc..." It's hilarious but it just won't get it right! I could say the last name but the last name is tricky and my tongue trips itself like an ***** everytime.

Also... is there a way to enable Google now voice search when the phone is in sleep mode? Because google now would be useful if I could just use the mic instead of waking my device THEN searching. Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated.

    Dont say "send text to"

just say TEXT [first name] [last name] [message] or just say the first name it will identify the contact.

i tried it a few times on my phone now and it works perfectly for me

btw, the name should be in contacts

where are you from? are you native English speaker?

make sure to enable internet on your phone when using it. it will be more accurate.

what name are you trying to txt?

Yup I'm a native English speaker, internet is indeed on.
I'm trying to text my friend named Arelys. (won't say last name for privacy issue, also it DOES work...sort of...if I use the last name)
And also my friend is on my contact list.

Sometimes names are just hard for Google's voice recognition to understand.

You can try putting a phonetic spelling of the person's name in the Nickname field. Perhaps that will work.

I have a slightly different problem, when I say TEXT mike smith, it opens a text but the name is in the message, it does the same for email never, not once has it put the name in the "To" area.

    Any thoughts?

Are all of your contacts in a Google (GMail) account, or are they in a 3rd-party account (like Exchange)?

They need to be in a Google account for it to work right.

Also, if you're trying to get it to recognize a contact that only has the company field filled in, that tends not to work. Recognition only seems to work properly on the name fields. What I do for this situation is I put the name of the company in both the Last Name field and the Company field.

    Example:

    First Name:
    Last name: Target

    Company: Target

    "Call Target" (It works)

Well there is my problem, most of my contacts are in my outlook contacts. I assume there is a way to export from outlook to gmail...I am guessing I will need to do that on my pc.

    Thanks

Doing it on your PC is probably the easiest way, though some Android devices (like those using HTC Sense) support exporting/importing to/from a vCard file (.vcs). If you're going to export from Outlook on the desktop, then you'll need to export to a Comma Separated Values (.csv) file.

GMail/Google Contacts (on the desktop) will import from .csv or .vcs files. The only problem is that contact photos won't transfer. You'll have to reassign them from your photo gallery on the phone (or via GMail/Google Contacts on the desktop).

The transfer works, but not all fields directly translate between Outlook and Google Contacts (If you've customized any fields, those you'll likely have trouble with).

The following is for general background knowledge to help out anyone else that might have issues or not understand cloud storage of contacts:

I've seen it on the message boards plenty of times. People wonder why their voice calling/texting, contact searching, 3rd-party contact managers, etc. don't work right. It's because they don't have their contacts in Google's ecosystem. They also run into problems (losing contacts) when they try to switch phones. GMail/Google Contacts works great (when people actually use it), but many newcomers to Android (and smartphones in general) don't understand the relationship (or lack thereof) between contacts stored in the cloud versus those stored on local databases on their phone.

When you save a contact using your phone, you have to ensure that it is saved to the "Google" account (i.e. the account tied to your GMail email address). Don't save it to "Android" (or whatever "Phone" account may exist). If you don't save it to the associated Google/GMail account, then it's not saved in the cloud and if your phone is lost/stolen/broken or replaced, whatever contacts you had on that phone will be lost. Most phones will allow you to set the default account to save contacts to (or will default to whatever account you last saved a contact to). So be careful to look at which account to which you're saving a new contact.

Contacts that are saved in the cloud are still accessible on your phone regardless of coverage or airplane mode, etc. (a locally cached copy is always maintained). Any changes you make locally will be synced the next time your phone gets online.

You can access your contacts from your desktop via GMail (mail.google.com -- then choose Contacts from the red "GMail" dropdown menu) or via the Google Contacts web interface (). Both access the same contacts information.

All of this applies to Calendar, too ().

Bring up your contact to edit. Click on the Add another field button.

    Choose Nickname.

Spell the name phonetically. For example, if you were trying to get Android to recognize the Spanish pronunciation of Jesus, you would put "Hay soose" in the Nickname field.

Basically, adjust the spelling of your friend's name so that it is spelled more like it sounds. If the nickname field doesn't work, you can try the Company field.

Thank you so much for this information! However I am going to give up on my friend's name because no matter what i do even the things you suggested (which I will use for others) just won't work with voice recognition... T.T

    Found this thread through searching:

If you haven't found the answer yet, do this: Add a "nickname" and/or "phonetic name" to your Contact. I believe S-voice searches nicknames and Google Search searches phonetic names. By changing how you write your friends name, you might be able to come up with a solution.

Well, honesty, "Arelys" is not a word, and it's not pronounced particularly phonetically. It's not surprising Google can't find it in any of it's dictionaries.
Google makes a best guess based on predictive patterns, but you have to give it SOMETHING to work with!

    Hello all,

I am using the Note 2 and Lately I am having troubles with all sorts of problems. S voice used to work but its not working well anymore.

I said call Huelsmann, my name pronounced hillsmann or hullsmann not hard I have tried several different ways and it comes up with smith
I have tried my wife nikii pronounced nicky and it spells nikki but wont find her name I tried kyungsoon and it comes up with will smith, kill soon or justin. I have my wife saved as nikii, nikii kyungsoon, nikii hulelsmann and I have her saved as a Korean name 니카 힐스만 and 경순 with work and mobile. It sometimes randomly works and spells it nikii. But it wont call anyone. I tried Korean which I have downloaded and it doesn't work either.

On another note my cell has been lagging really bad lately and freezing and booting me from games alot lately. I think it happened when I updated to jelly bean 4.2.1 the new s4 software. Should I roll back the update? should I go back to jellybean 4.1? Should I go into the Samsung A/S service?
