Default Question about OTA updates and how folks find them

When an OTA update is released by Google, someone somewhere posts a link to download it, like this that updates the GN from 4.2 to 4.2.1:

    http://android.clients.google.com/pa...K.e587de13.zip

My question is how do people find that link? You can't browse to that URL, you get a 403 Forbidden.

I have this little squares icon on the top left that appears. When checked it says system update and you can update immediately or later.

No I know how you find it on the device. I'm talking about how do you find the actual URL where Google stores it on their servers?

    Google releases the factory images.

But do they list the OTA updates too?

Just wondering how you get that list.

    No only downloadable files.

So going back to my original question, how do folks find the OTA files that they post?

Usually it takes someone to actually get the update. Then you can pull the sever location and filename from the logcat. (I use aLogcat)

Here's an old post that explains it even better: [How-To] Get the OTA download location and share it

This is good for Nexus devices, but most carrier devices obfuscate the download locations now.

Trickery. On my old bionic we had a app cheesecake that would scan Motorola's servers for updates. It's illegal and they try to stop it but the hacker's are smart
