I understand that you would connect you cable box to the costar then to an av receiver then to the tv. Where would you put a DVD player? If you put it connected to the av receiver you bypass the Google tv overlay. Can you control the DVD player and set up all the inputs with one macro like a Logitech Harmony?

your costar would not factor into your dvd setup, unless your have a receiver/dvd player combo.

If your dvd player is separate then that will just go into a separate input from the costar. Not sure if it could be controlled by the costar remote.
