Hey All,

Thanks for responding. I'll stop banging my head against the wall and phone against my head.

Currently, i do not have access to a windows machine or a windows license (at work or at home). Perhaps i'll try to mooch of a friend in the future, for the moment i'll just use the stock phone.

i'll keep my fingers crossed for an alternative method for rooting. Has anyone figured out the difference from OTA update v. LGMobile update program?

At the moment, there isn't really an alternative method.

The difference between OTA and LGMobile is that the OTA update also updates the recovery kernel. The LG update does not.

Would itbe possible to install a root kit while in v9 (with root) then upgrade to VC and execute the root kit? Sorry if this has been suggested before but scanning through 50+ pages of posts is a though way to find info.

You don't need to scan, it's called "search" for a reason

If you mean running RageAgainstTheCage on OTA VC don't even try. It simply will not work. You need to be updated to VC using the LGMobile update tool and you need to follow the instructions carefully in the LS670ZVC rooting guide.

You can also use the LG Optimus S Control Center. Note that some users have been reporting issues, but I have a hunch those issues are coming from user error.

No I was thinking that if one has root on V9 then prior to the upgrade one installs a piece of sofware not affected by the update but still can execute after the upgrade to.get a root shell. Oh how I miss the thunderom!

The point of VC is it patches known root exploits (rage is the one that has worked prior to VC).

So yes, you could do what you suggest. You would just need to figure out a new exploit which hasn't been patched yet.

At step (q) it is flashing the phone and not complete yet. What caused you to stop at that step? Was there an error? Could you post the error?

I haven't tested this, but running the LG tool MIGHT work in Linux using the latest version of Wine.

Note to anyone else, i did try wine on OS X, however wine doesn't have much/any support for usb devices and drivers; that support should be in the next release, wine-1.4, but that's not available at the moment.


thanks for the suggesting though, the software runs great in wine until it needs to access the usb devices.

Thanx for the reply sfhub. Im sorry i didn't actually stop at step (q) i finished the completion as was mentioned on step S. When it reboots i see the lg screen and after that i hear the sprint logo screen that comes up after that but i cant see anything. Im going to try and start the process over again and post the log!

ok well it seems when i did that power vol home a couple times then it seems i can get into the recovery mode area where its saying its trying to find update package..

this might be a dumb question but in the reverting to v9 process was i suppose to be the recovery mode area n the phone before the LG Software Updater Tool started?

You can be in recovery or in android. Doesn't matter. The tool will switch the phone into a special mode to flash in both cases.

Well it looks like you already had V9 installed on your phone and you force flashed V9 back onto your phone.

You also typed the wrong bin version "ls670v9_20" instead of "LS670ZV9_20"

Other than that, it looks like the flash completed. What problem(s) were you having?

well thats because this is like my 3rd or 4th time flash it. I probably flashed it correctly the first time with the bin numbers but

I am experiencing the exact same problem. This is on a brand new phone that came with VC, and I am assuming the VC recovery partition as well.
The phone appears to be operating, but nothing appears on the screen. When a button is pressed, the backlight comes on. I can even hear the USB connection sound when I connect it to my computer. I was able to start an ADB session, but I cannot complete the root process if I can't see to go to the market place and install SuperUser.

This occurred when the phone rebooted after being force flashed to V9 with the LG Update Tool. Since the phone was basically useless with no screen, I used the LG Update Tool to go back to VC, but obvioulsy I do not have root yet. Has anyone else experienced this?

This occurred when the phone rebooted after being force flashed to V9 with the LG Update Tool. Since the phone was basically useless with no screen, I used the LG Update Tool to go back to VC, but obvioulsy I do not have root yet. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes. I launched the LG Updater, then connected the phone via USB, then clicked the red update button on the updater. At least I can use the phone now until I figure out what to do next.
