Is Android development still ongoing or close to being finished?

Just curious. I picked one of these up, as many did, when it was cheap, and have been too busy playing with my new Nexus that I've kind of pushed this off to the side.

Just wondering how android advancement was coming based on people's opinions and if a stable/final release was close to being completed or if people thought it may never achieve full android functionality?

CyanogenMod 7 (gingerbread) Alpha 3.5 was stable, comparable with what you would get on a new system from a shop.
Xronified CM7 fitted in where standard CM7 wasn't quiet working for some people and was stable.
Cyanogenmod 9 (ice cream sandwich) Alpha 0.6 is stable but still needs drivers and bugs fixed.

HP have recently given the developer community the code needed to make all the hardware work properly.

I'm personally running CM9 Alpha 0.5 and it is stable but needs the bugs fixed and hardware acceleration implemented.
