Why doesn't my phone switch to SD card for downloading?

AC Question

Why doesn't my phone switch to SD card for downloading.

I formatted a new 32 G micro SDHc card & put it into my HTC desire 510. When I try to down load an app, the phone says error, not enough space. I have tried this with a regular SD card of fewer Gigs (4) and it still doesn't recognize it for downloading. It does have the proper amount of storage in the storage setting. What gives?

Hello. Welcome to Android Central.

Apps have to be downloaded to internal storage. Try moving chunks of other downloaded apps to the sd card (the main app will remain), it may help a little. (Apps - sd card / All list, touch each for App Info, select Move to SD Card.

SD cards are ideal for storing media but Google is supprting them less amd less.

There may be a limited amount of storage allocated for apps on that device. You may need to select what you need most eventually.

It works the same way in Windows. Download to your D drive and the file gets downloaded to your C drive, then gets moved to your D drive.
