    Default Need Help

So I've been reading threads here about how to upgrade to 2.1 and let me say im confused. I was just wondering if anyone has a fullproof way to upgrade it easily with little to no risk of messing up my phone.

Q: If I do upgrade and it messes up my phone can I take it back to verizon and just pretend like I have no idea what happened and they'll give me a new one or does this void the warranty (which im guessing it does) and they can see that i tried it and tell me to f*** off?

Being that the upgrade isn't official/legit, it probably will void your warranty.

If you choose to upgrade to the 2.1 LEAK, you won't be able to downgrade or remove 2.1 at all until the devs release a way to do so.
If you want to be able to downgrade to 1.5, root your phone w/ v1.5 and then upgrade to a 2.1 Rom.

<----- That thread should tell you all you need to know about upgrading.

    Hope that helps..

    Ok thanks!

Next question: How do I root my phone with 1.5 and then upgrade to a 2.1 ROM?

Would be so easy if there was 1 file that did 1 thing or an easy tutorial lol not 3 million roms and different ways to do it. (Jailbreaking an iPod Touch was so much easier lol)

    Go to this site. .

<-- this site usually has the most up-to-date information on hacking phones. It'll answer pretty much any question you have.

Just a tip for the future, but before making a thread about something use the search engine in the forum, or better yet use GOOGLE.
It gets kind of annoying seeing threads asking the same questions over and over again.

The reason I ask and don't google is because there are too many versions of how to do it and different ways to do it. I dont want to google it and pick the one that is going to mess my phone up. Which I managed to do..

And the first link you gave me in your second post. The tutorial seems to work until it says "Choose a ROM" and gives you a link. No matter what name you pick there are a number of each of the ROMs and other files it just depends on which one you click. A tutorial shouldnt do that imo.. So again I am back to where I started and have no idea what to do. Luckily I messed up my phone because of the theme program I was using and not this tutorial.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've came to this forum about phone discussion and a place to get help and been told to go Google something or do a search before I ask. I do believe that other people post the same questions but hell if I saw it posted 10 different times I would help each one. I'm sorry I am just sick of people on this forum being rude and telling me to go google something. If it was that simple don't you think I would go do that before I posted on a forum waiting for a reply that could take days?

I agree 100%. I haven't rooted my phone, do not want to, so I wouldn't be able to answer any questions about rooting. But I agree with this - if you are going to bother to answer, is it really that difficult to answer the question without getting haughty about it?

lol rude people suck. they are just useless....listen ,just root your phone. looks complicated but once you have downloaded some of the software you need, your morethan halfway done. there are quite a few steps to rooting phone. def plan to take maybe 1hr of your time to do this. its nearly impossible to brick your phone. does it void warrant ? yep . does Verizon care or check? nope. my trackball went on my Eris and took to Verizon and they replaced right on the spot. I had 2.1 leak installed. no questions. no fuss. gave me the opportunity to root. loveing root. your OS will never become obsolete. look at g1 . lol its still going strong. my 2$

I want to really bad, but now there everyone is talking about how to the 29th might be the day I am going to wait. If it doesnt come out by the 30th then I will most definitely root.

The thing the gets me though is that there are so many different ROMS and other things you need to do to root your phone. I just wish there was one updated tutorial with pictures that said download this and this install this blah blah you know? I'm not very good with this kind of stuff and it would just be easier.

that's the thing though. once you update to official your kind of stuck with that version for a while. when 2.2 rolls out, rooters will be nearly first in getting the upgrade while the you have to wait another 6 mos IF Verizon even decides to let you have the upgrade. like I said before ,g1 is a fantastic example. g1 users are stuck on 1.6 while being told that its impossible to upgrade to 2.1 cause phone hardware can't handle. non sense. g1 rooters most certainly run 2.1 WITH sense. they overclock their devices and they run like droids....I went to a site called unlocked.com . they have videos and detailed instructions on how to root. they also have download links to the software you will need. really looks a lot more complicated than it really is .

as far as roms go,your right. there are a few and it can be hard to decide which one is best for you. yesterday I flashed or used 3 different roms. once you root ,its very simple to use other roms. I ran one yesterday that made Eris feel like an incredible. it had all the new widgets. was incredibly fast. only thing though that it couldn't receive or send mms. that kinda killed it for me. so I went back to my trusty ivans Rom which is very stable. not as fast but faster than 1.5 with zero problems. everyday devs are improving some of the more exotic roms ...

I wasn't trying to be rude when I said google it. If you haven't noticed, under my username it says "Android Newbie". I don't know that much about Android. I'm more familiar with iPhone OS. I was just trying to help. Everything that I've learned I've done so by using Google.
