One Year with the Droid Eris
Its been exactly one year since I received my shiny new Droid Eris with stock android 1.5. I was happy, new smartphone, a major upgrade from my Windows Mobile OS Verizon SMT5800 that I had been carrying. Then came Eclair, some said the two month old Eris could never receive such a powerful update and be stable. Naysayers warned of bricks and paperweights for all users trying to push eclair. The first leak showed up, I jumped on it, no regrets, then #2 came out, why not load it? Install #2 and still a great phone. Finally got my courage up to root and installed KaosFroyo. Went through a few updates then changed my ROM to Nonsensikal. Still loving my phone. Then last month, working in my shed and dropped the beloved Eris onto concrete slab, glass shatters. No problem, get a replacement screen from ebay. Installed the screen but cracked corner of glass during the install. No big deal but not as happy any more. Called Verizon the other day and it turns out I can get a new phone under my contract with Big Red. Hello Moto DX, goodbye Eris!
My point is, the Eris was a great phone for me, maybe not for others but I really enjoyed it. So many people on this forum have said the Eris was not powerful enough but all was accomplished by clever guys over at XDA. I'll miss my Eris but the DX is on it's way.

The standard replacement for the Eris right now is a Droid1. If you are lucky they will give you a Droid X or a DINC.Look at your comment. Back to mine. Back to yours NOW BACK TO MINE. Sadly, it isn't mine. But if you stopped trolling and started posting useful replies it could LOOK like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're scrolling through comments, finding the ones that your comment could look like. Back at mine, what is it? It's a highly effective counter-troll. Look again, MY COMMENT IS NOW DIAMONDS.Anything is possible when you think before you comment or post. Im on a computer.

I have had my Eris from launch day. Chose it over the D1. It has had Froyo on it for longer than most other phones. Runs like a champ, most of the time. It has been a great phone for me, and the first smart phone that i have owned.
The time has come for me to upgrade it. She is just a little slow for me to run the apps i want. I am looking at the new LG Revolution, looks nice and I am a fan of LG products. Owned or own an eNV1 and eNV2 my 46" inch plasma and my wireless bluray player are all LG.

I've had an Eris for nearly a year now too, and like many of you, it was my first smartphone too. I'd had Vzn send me a replacement once because my phone would occasionally freeze. The replacement worked fine for a month, then it started to freeze. I had a couple family members with the same issues, they all got Incredibles after their 3rd replacement due to the supposed 'lemon law' (whether or not that's the reason I don't really know) I recently called to complain just to see if I could get an DInc, every rep I talked to said they'd only EVER send and Eris to replace an Eris, since that was HTC's warranty. "An Incredible is a vastly superior device, we could never send one of those to replace an Eris" was an actual line that a rep told me.
Anyway, I only complained because of minor issues, and to see if I could upgrade with a little complaining. I actually was very happy with my Eris. It did everything the others do (except live wallpapers), just a bit laggy sometimes. The biggest issue is that when it drops a call, and I attempt to redial that person, the phone just sits there doing nothing with me pressing the button. Nothing. Nothing. Then after 30 sec it dials, and then dials the same number again on call waiting or hold, it's really weird.
Aside from that, the Eris has been a great entry-level smartphone. Voice-guided GPS (free, and very accurate thanks to Android 2.1), great camera, and small enough to fit in my carpenter pants' side pocket.
On a 1-10 scale, I'd rate my overall at an 8.

I had a Touch Pro 1 with WinMo (total POS) and got my Eris the day it came out (Nov.6th) and loved it. I did about everything you can do it to make it snappier with some success and several failures. But the little Droid that could kept trucking. I got a DX in July of '10, and this is really the first time I've looked back. It was a great phone, but I had a case of upgradeitis. My G/F has it now, and it suits her just fine. Especially since I just put Gingerbread/Shed on it.
Oops, time to update the sig...Droid X CyanogenMod7 Nightly 154 Sensation 4G CyanogenMod10 KANG Nexus 4 Rooted 4.2.2 w/Nova Launcher Pro
Your phone will only be the latest and greatest for a few months.
