changing text alerts

How in the blue blazes can u change the text alert? The simple beep once and vibrate doesnt cut it id prefer something that can wake me up but i cant figure it out. I see no option to change it, the only sounds i can change are the ringer and notifications. I changed the notification sound but that didnt apply to text alerts. Ive actually never even heard the noise that i did set for notifications.

I dunno. I just want to change the dumb alert. Easiest thing to do on any phone ive jad besides this eris

Settings >> Sound and Display >> Notification Sound

I figured it out roght after i posted. I had to hit menu when i was in the message menu, then hit settings and it broigjt up a different settings menu then that of choosing settings out of the app list
