Re: noob here...Why ROOT?????

there are multiple benefits. to get rid of bloatware, increase battery life, wifi tethering, flashing custom roms, using "root only" apps from the market, overclock/underclock, etc...if you like to have a factory look and feel that runs fast and great battery life definitely check out CleanROM. it is a fantastic rom. to root or not root is totally up to you, but well worth it once you do. :)

Re: noob here...Why ROOT?????

To make things a bit more clear, in Linux systems(which android is based off of), root is the deepest control you can get. as root, you can do anything to the computer. Think of the Administrator user on your windows PC. and how certain programs or installers need administrator privelages.
Same concept for Android.
Developers make apps that need admin privelages to run(such as overclocking your phone's processor or taking screenshots). Android OS does not let your average users run these because there is a chance you can break your phone. Rooting is the process of unlocking that root account, so you can run trusted apps as root, where any privelages can be met.

thanks for the advice, one more question is by rooting the phone does it affect the warranty of the phone??

If you use the method posted in the forums then really no cause you can completely remove root and custom recovery and return to stock.
If you use HTC method then yes you are void.
