Yeah I couldn't believe it when I read it but it was bitter sweet cause I didn't have a Linux box =/
Then the live CD got released and BAM I've got 1.4 =)
Next step is to donate cause that's what all the kool kids do!

Re: HBoot 1.5 downgrade to 1.4 Successful!
I did it myself Sat night instead of going to the bar. I did have some problems, but luckliy I worked it out.
----------------------------------------------------
I started with an HBOOT 1.5 phone (obviously), I reverted it to stock and re-locked it.
------------------------------------------------------
I should have did it in this order. I relocked first then put on a stock. Ended up in HBOOT with a security flag. Couldn't do much of anything. Came mighty close to bricking it trying to figure it out. I thought. No light, no nothing.
But, the computer did seem to know it was there. after trying a few things I figured since the computer seem to sense it, I booted with the Live CD (new version 0.5.1) One terminal window one command word "downgrade" well it seemed to have worked, I got rid of the security flag in HBOOT. then put stock on it
-------------------------------------------------------
*NOTE* When I plugged AC power back in to my phone during the brick process, I DID NOT get a dim red light, I had no light at all, but I moved forward as if I did, and it was ok.
------------------------------------------------------------
I had the same trouble with not seeing the dim LED. Most of it was my timing and execution. Too many coffees I guess lol After a few hours and many attempts. Time consuming having it reboot and popping the cover off. After all that, I just said the heck with it and did the Live CD. It worked.
---------------------------------------------------------
Upon completing that phase of the instructions I removed my SDCARD from my phone, re-booted into windows, plugged my phone into the USB and held vol. down + power to boot into fastboot. I then located my 1.13 RUU EXE file on my computer and ran it from windows. After that was done I booted my phone up with HBOOT 1.4!!!! Next I used revolutionary to obtain S-Off, put TWRP 2.0 recovery on, flashed superuser, made a recovery, and flashed MIUI.US!
------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't remove my sdcard. Went into fast boot and ran the 1.13 ruu.exe from the windows computer. Got the HBOOT 1.14 when it was all done. Then did the revolutionary.io method. Success. Reinstalled TRWP 1.1.1,Then put CleanROM Reborn back on it and reinstalled my apps and setting. Long night for me. Mostly due to not seeing the dim LED on it.
Well all is fine now. It's working. No more 2 step process installing ROMs anymore.
Paul
Note: I wonder if I actually needed to run that Live CD a second time. Maybe just went ahaed and put the 1.13 RUU on it. I'll never know. No biggie. - 04-04-2012, 01:44 PM #6
Re: HBoot 1.5 downgrade to 1.4 Successful!
Hey all,
I'm considering diving in a trying this. I'm never rooted before and I have a couple of questions.
Do you have the opportunity to backup the phone before it gets wiped? Is there a way to backup app data also? - 04-04-2012, 03:12 PM

Re: HBoot 1.5 downgrade to 1.4 Successful!
I'm new to this. What stuff (if anything) should I stress about losing? What do you worry about losing when you wipe?
My initial thoughts:
Contacts: Backed up to googles cloud
Apps: Play Store and Amazone AppStore save all downloads. I'll have to back up apk's that I sideloaded myself
App settings and data: I guess there's no way to avoid losing this and starting from scratch?
Pictures and Video: should all be on SD card
Calendar: in the cloud
Emails: in the cloud
SMS messages: I guess there's no way to avoid losing this and starting from scratch?
Voicemails: I think these can be backed up to sd card, right? But if I flash a ROM that doesn't have Sprint's voicemail app how do I get voicemail?
Bookmarks: Is there a way to backup bookmarks? It's not many, I guess I can manaually recreate.
Call history: Is there a way to back it up? (Do I really care?)
Anything I'm forgetting? - 04-04-2012, 06:26 PM #9

I'm on my phone so I can't see what app Benny is referring too but I assume it will perform as stated.
As for vm, you can find the evo3d sprint vm apk by googling it. I would post link if I was on pc. Additionally on every Rom I've ever used, holding down the #1 on the dialer dials my voicemail.
I would assume that there is an app to backup sms and bookmarks and others since there is an app for everything these days. BUT for all intensive purposes you will lose those should you choose to flash a custom rom, but I feel its a small sacrifice as I don't have anything important in mine.
The Play Store keeps track of your downloaded and purchased apps so its fairly easy to get back to where you were.
Outside of Android system folders the sdcard is untouched unless you manually format it. I have found that some apps and roms retain some files and settings upon reinstallation (i.e. themes for MIUI)
Hope this gives you the confidence to try, if you're successful you won't be disapointed!

Re: HBoot 1.5 downgrade to 1.4 Successful!
I got all the way to the part where you brick the device..I installed ubuntu on my windows 7 so that every time i turn on the power to my laptop i have to choose to boot windows 7 or ubuntu n I could never get the live cd to boot up while i was in ubuntu. And some of the commands wasn't going thru n I knew I type them right. So 8hrs later with a bricked device I see u can even use Virtual box either while booted into windows. Phone will not power on or boot into bootloader.

but if you have ubuntu on your pc already you can do it without the cd, i know i had to sudo all the terminals when i did it,
if you here.
and contact unknownforce he will help you with it, he's very good guy and do all he can to help you. just PM him and he will get back to you - 05-12-2012, 08:38 AM #15

Re: HBoot 1.5 downgrade to 1.4 Successful!
@LamarW89:
If your device is still bricked and you have the live CD you should still be able to recover your phone.
Don't worry about your installation of UBUNTU you don't need it, everything you need in terms of the linux portion is on Closeones Live CD.
Set your computer to boot from CD BEFORE it boots from HardDisk (done in Bios) then load the CD into your CD rom and restart your computer.
When your computer boots up it SHOULD ask you if you want to boot from the CD (maybe says something like "Press any key to boot from CD")
I have not used Closeones most recent version of the CD so I'm not sure if much has changed from when I did it but I am sure that if you download and burn the most recent one, then follow his instructions beginning after the part where you brick your phone you should be able to recover your phone and be Hboot1.4 and S-OFF!
This method seems to be fairly forgiving and many people have ran into trouble and still been able to complete the steps so don't give up just begin at the linux part using the LiveCD. And Boot from the CD not from your hard disks. If you need more specific help you can pm me a phone number that you can be reached at and I can call you and help walk you through it. - 05-12-2012, 09:14 AM

Re: HBoot 1.5 downgrade to 1.4 Successful!
Also like Benny said you can go straight to the actual threads and post your problems in one of the 2 threads and somebody with some more experience could provide some more direct answers. I'm not a dev so when I run into problems I just start over (often times re-downloading all the tools as well) but so far I have bricked, broke, boot looped and everything else, my Evo3D and I'm currently running a fast smooth version of MIUI with no problems at all =)
Thanks to the dev community, this is a solid and forgiving phone to play with! - 05-12-2012, 09:25 AM #20
Re: HBoot 1.5 downgrade to 1.4 Successful!
I had tried this on my phone, with no avail, then I had to exchange my Evo 3D because of bad charger port, with the new referb phone I thought I would give it a try and it Worked!! I love it!

Re: HBoot 1.5 downgrade to 1.4 Successful!
yeah im tired of using htc dumlock n using fastboot in the command prompts with hboot 1.50. It was fun at first but its a hassle now n im used to revolutionary method with e4g. I shouldve never switch my blk e3d for the white one because i was hboot 1.4 n thought 1.5 was gonna be fun.
