Benefit of 1.4 vs 1.5

What is(are) benefit of having s-off 1.4/1.5 over the htc unlocked 1.5?

I have 1.5 htc unlocked running Scott's rom Reborn1.1 and is thinking of doing the downgrade but dont know the benefits.

The only one I can see is having to flash roms thru the PC.

With 1.4 you don't have to use HTC unlocking tool. So if you downgrade to 1.4 from stock without ever unlocking 1.5 using HTC's unlock tool, then HTC won't know that you unlocked/rooted and your warrenty isn't voided. (Questionably ethical)

Also I've seen people on message boards (not sure if it was here or on XDA) complaining of issues when trying to flash ROMS using s-on 1.5 unlocked. Downgrading to 1.4 and getting s-off seems to fix them. I think it had to do with s-on vs s-off, but I don't really know.

So if you've already unlocked 1.5 and you're not having any issues, maybe there's no benefit to downgrading for you.

Now with 4EXT recovery that will flash kernels there is really no need to downgrade beings your already HTC unlocked, but if your like me and like to flash different splash screens you cant on 1.5. 1.4 allows you to flash to the boot partition where 1.5 doesnt

I was on 1.5 s-on till yesterday.. I went 1.4 s-off because I was getting some reboots and wifi wasn't working on one of the newer custom roms that I like (meanrom 4.0). probably only needed to upgrade the radio to fix it, but since it seems a few of those roms are designed on 1.4 s-off (just my impression, dont know for sure), thought it couldn't hurt to be apples to apples with them. It was kind of fun to do though, took a while, learned a few things going through it.

usally its the boot.img not being flashed or even a bad flash when the wifi doesnt work
