Sudden really bad battery drain
Has anyone seen this? My 3VO has been a boss until now. I noticed the phone got a bit warmer yesterday than usual, but I chalked it up to the unusually large amount of push emails I was getting; long story, work, reunion, and death in the family...
Anyway, today my battery has been draining like crazy...2hrs 27m, and my phone is down from a full charge to 62% with minimal use...as in 2-3 texts, a couple of emails...and nothing else.
Anyone else seen this? - 08-01-2011, 10:56 AM #2
When was the last time you rebooted? May have background processes running that are not needed

Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
Actually I rebooted last night before I put it on the charger. The back felt a little hot, so I wanted to make sure there were no extra processes running while it was charging.
It dropped to 47% about 45 minutes after I posted. It's on the charger now (second time today). As much as I hate to, I am going to fully charge it and do a hard reset. Will let you guys know if it helps... - 08-01-2011, 01:15 PM #6

Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
Did you download any new apps?? You may have a rouge app if this just started.. Download watchdog and it will notify you if something is going crazy..

Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
What's your battery status/info say? Most of the time when I have some crazy drop it all makes sense. Just this weekend I noticed I was down to 60% after only a few hours of being awake. Then I saw that Slacker Radio was keeping the phone awake from the minute I took it off the charger. Forced stop and all was good the rest of the day.

Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
I am currently experiencing the same problem. When I looked at the battery info, a significant amount of battery was used by "Mediaserver."
I had heard that this can be caused by a corrupt media file. I downloaded the pictures and videos I have taken to my laptop and then erased the contents of the DCIM folder. Hopefully that will fix my problems.
I will report back.Useful Links - 08-01-2011, 04:22 PM #10
Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
Whats your up and awake time in the battery stats? If your up time is anywhere near the awake time you have a problem with an app.

Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
In the time since my last post, I have
1. Restarted the phone
2. Changed the skin
3. Downloaded and installed Watchdog
Battery has dropped from 100% to 95%
I'm starting to think the battery has gone south...and I have only had this phone a week. - 08-01-2011, 05:20 PM

Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
I'd bring it back to Sprint. Seems a little to soon for this to be going south.

Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
Well, I took the phone into Sprint yesterday. The guy tested the battery. The tester said the battery was good, but the charge was low...the battery was at about 65% at the time...he replaced it since there was obviously a problem. After 3hours off the charger, the phone is at 91%. :-)
Thanks everyone for your suggestions! - 08-03-2011, 11:47 AM #17

Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
After your phone hits 100% off of a charge the phone runs off of the battery again. Seems stupid but thats what HTC did. Pending on your area do you have good service? This morning at my house I woke up to a green light. But the phone only had 98% battery life. So it just might be the timing.

Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
I had that issue too in the last few days...suddenly it's horrible. I lost almost 25% of battery life in the matter of a hour with sending 4 texts and leaving it idle.
Even now it's been off off the charger since 7AM, sent approximately 10 texts and I'm at 52%. I thought my battery issues were gone(see battery life thread) but apparently they're back. I might bring it back to Sprint and have them test it.I have no signature. - 08-03-2011, 02:07 PM #20
Re: Sudden really bad battery drain
I noticed a similar issue for the first time today. I went to a new gym I had not been to b4 and had a very weak 3g signal. I was running slacker and my phone heated up to 109 degrees and my battery started draining faster than I've seen it b4. Soon as I got home it cooled back down and the battery was normal again. In my experience the weak 3g signal is what's causing these battery issues...

I had the exact same problem. I'd drop 40% after a 10min call. I called HTC and they sent me a new battery. Ironically, i did a battery pull reset right after I hung up and it fixed the problem completely. Now I have an extra battery that I carry to swap if needed. I posted in the forums about this and someone suggested Watchdog to monitor for rogue apps.
