Brought to you by XDA. This is pretty stunning. Using it right now and on auto settings it's delivering some really really nice shots. Absolutely destroys the auto setting pq from the stock camera, although I haven't tinkered around with this too much or compared a whole lot. Try it out, you'll be impressed.

Did I mention 1080p recording? Also 3mp 3D shots.

I suspected that a lot of improvements to the MyTouch/Amaze cameras were software related, and this seems to partially confirm this.

Do you have to be rooted to do this? Also, if I try the.apk file will it write over the stock camera or will there basically be two cameras to choose from?

Also curious. If ever there was a reason to root, this is probably it.

No rooting required! They made an apk specifically for that purpose

Just grab the apk files from the bottom of the list.

You'll have two cameras - the stock one, and an entirely new app in your drawer called "Amaze Camera" as well as "Amaze Camcorder"

So far so good. Best this is i can now turn off the shutter sound. I'll have to give it a side by side test tomorrow to see if it's truly software or optics.

Please share the results from your test tomorrow. Would be interested in loading this also if the results are worth it.

Hi all, my phone won't let me install the apk after it's downloaded. Any suggestions?

Are you using an App Installer App? I used Androzip to find the downloaded apk and then install it through there.

Installed and will do some testing. I am like others...I don't necessarily think it is the EVO 3D's camera itself that was at fault, only the default settings. I did notice that there are pre-set options in the Amaze 4G app for different situations/environment, like night-time shots, action shots, etc., which does show that for the best possible pictures, you really do have to change settings accordingly. The main difference here is that you aren't going into detailed settings, just some pre-set ones for each condition.

Thanks again, Love Devine, for the link!
