Which SMS app do you use??

I run with the stock SMS, but I've heard that it uses more memory and is less efficient than other SMS apps on the android market. So i was wondering which SMS app you guys here use and is your favorite? Thanks in advance!

Are you looking for something like viber or whatsapp? There are others wich sends the sms over the same net as the stock sms app but Whatsapp and viber uses wifi or 3G.

Go sms is an alternative wich can be used for both wifi/3G and normal net

I use the stock app but turn off notifications and then use SMS pop-up for notifications. Its a really good combo.

The only SMS pop-up app in the play store is the one from Adam K

I used Handcent for a little while, but I didn't see what the big deal was, so I uninstalled and went back to the stock SMS app. Am I missing something? Why should I bother with a 3rd party app?

I use pansi sms. Fast and comes with quite a few features.

Agreed. What does everyone find so offensive about the stock SMS?

I use Go SMS, but am seriously considering finding something new. It was great for a while, now it is so bloated with features that I have no idea how to use 90% of them. It is beginning to remind me of MS Office products, they just keep stuffing feature upon feature in with no regards to whether anyone is using them or not...

GO SMS is bloated and everything else seems so cartoony and poorly designed. Ended up keeping it stock, but with SMS-Pop up. Best combo by far.

I've never tried a 3rd party SMS app but my daughter swears by Handcent. She loves all the customization possibilities.

I've always used Handcent... Themes and good plugins. I also like the built in pop-ups. My daughter prefers GoSMS.

Umirerob,

Does GoSMS have good popups too? I'm thinking of changing from the stock app to one of the third party ones. I lean toward GoSMS but still not 100% sure. Plus with the update around the corner I am also looking into what ones support 4.x.

For those of you using SMS Popup with the stock messaging app, do you find that the home screen icon show the number of unread messages even after you clear it from the popup screen? I installed the SMS Popup and while it is exactly what I am looking for, it seems silly that I have to open the Messaging app to clear the count of unread messages.

Agreed. There is a setting to mark 'closed' messages as 'read' in the settings, but even with that checked, I still have to open the message app to mark something as read. If there's no way around this it's def. a deal breaker.

I just dl'd SMS Popup (with stock SMS app). I'm gonna play with it for a few days and then share my thoughts.

I had stock SMS and pop-up but as was said, I did like the fact that a notification would still appear after I've answered a text using pop-up. I ended up going with GO SMS a day after I posted this thread, but I felt as if it KILLED my battery so much faster than normal. Now I just downloaded Handcent and I like it a lot, way better than GO SMS so far in my opinion.
