Do you live in California? They charge tax based on the non-discounted price of the phone, so you are paying tax on a $600 item, not a $200 item.

That can't be right, Tax here in VA is %5 so %5 of retail ($550) is $27.50 and I was charged $14

Yeah Im crunching the numbers. Even taxed off the $550 price tag its still high. Trying to figure how it could come to that I just dont see it yet. Anyone else in CA order yet?

It's a rough estimate. Some localities tax on an extra fee. CA tax code has been changing a lot lately.

California

For example in San Diego tax would be 52.50 on an EVO 3D purchase. It's a ridiculous policy and it seems CA is the only state doing it. I hear there is a lot of hell raising going on, so maybe it'll be gone by your next upgrade!

Looks like my VA tax is running a lot cheaper than most states still...14~ roughly.

You misunderstood.

Only the state of CA requires you to tax the retail amount.

VA allows you to tax the discounted rate (I also live in VA, paid like..14.07 or 14.70).

Pro-Tip: If you open a UPS Store Box in Nevada you can change your Sprint address to that and reap the benefits of the lowest cell taxes in the country. Also you could avoid a lot of tax on purchases...
