    Default Total memory only 803mb?

Just curious, but the evo 3D is supposed to have 1gb of ram. Since I have been playing with my phone over the past hour, I stumbled across the task manager. It shows I only have 803MB of memory and only 252MB free with no tasks running.

Anyone else have these same numbers? Missing a full 250MB of ram is pretty huge...

First you have to understand how ram, rom, MB, GB, and all that internal stuff works. The Evo 3d has 1GB ram and a 4GB rom.

The Evo has 1GB of ram. The android system and apps will use this just like a PC so therefore while the phone is "on", it will never show 1GB free memory and how much depends what apps are in use.

Android 2.3.3 (and other phone functions) reside in this 4GB and uses most of this space. What ever is free is used for you to add apps and such which isn't much (about 1GB) if I'm correct.

What he said^^ also just add the 805mb which is being used and the 250 mb that's not, and there you have you 1gb!

Sounds very weird to only see total of 803 MB of ram.

I've noticed this in reviews too, but I never saw the reviewer say anything about it as if it's out of the ordinary. I assumed it was system memory that doesn't show because the OS uses it, but on my computer for instance, all the memory shows even if used by the OS.

What are you checking the RAM with? If you're going into the Applications setting and looking at the Free/Available RAM, that isn't correct. That's the amount of RAM apps can use. There is some RAM that is reserved by the system that apps don't get access to. Check that number on an EVO 4G and mine says there is 427 MB of total RAM. There's supposed to be 512 MB.

I hope that's the case. It must be, since no one else has made an issue of it. This will be my first smart phone so I wasn't sure what the deal was.

Yep, that's the App RAM available in that screen shot. It doesn't account for the reserved memory for things like the radio. By keeping that RAM away from apps, it guarantees the phone will have the memory to do its basic tasks.

What blows my mind is how much ram Sense uses. Can't wait for some custom roms that trim that fat.

yup the other 200+ of ram is probably being used for the OS itself not including sense or apps. You can call it a reserve for OS pretty much. Just like windows you dont have all the ram available when you boot up, the underlying OS uses some ram too. It is not just the apps or sense. I am on the nexus right now and waiting on the evo 3d to ship to me from amazon. I have 512mb of ram but little over 300 is available for me to use. I guess there are hidden system resources that use ram as well other than just sense.
