buying the evo 3d - long lines today (launch day)?
I'm getting off work at 4 and driving straight to sprint to buy my new evo 3d, but I have one question to all of you who already bought the phone. Were there a lot of people in line waiting/buying this phone? Let me note that I live in chicago and will be getting it at sprint.

From what I read... so far no... After work this could all change though. Good luck and good choice.

There were normal crowds at my Sprint store when I drove by earlier. However since I have an appt. I don't have to worry about the walk-ins.

Yea I do not think the demand was that large or people are just waiting or they got it early. Because I called two best buys and a sprint store and they have them in stock. I have one set aside for me at the sprint store and I did not pre-order.

Same story here. I had preordered one so I didn't go in early.. it was probably 10:00am. The guy who sold me the phone said that they had only sold 3 so far. He also said that last year at the Evo4G launch they had around 40 people lined up!

Well when the premier plans changed it killed the 3ds chance of having a launch like the evos. A lot of people got screwed on this deal. Some figured out if they complained they could get it straightened out but most did not. So the numbers are not going to be anything like last years evo launch.

My local store is usually slammed, it was a ghost town this morning though. Walking threw the doors, I thought I was going to get jumped! Nothing but sprint employees, I played with the phone for about 5 mins. The phone was neat, I liked how fast it was. The end of the day I'm keeping my EVO and waiting for kingdom or something that will be more useful for me.

Re: buying the evo 3d - long lines today (launch day)?
I think that tSprint, Best Buy, and Radio Shack all did a great job with their pre-order systems. They were calling everyone yesterday to schedule out appointments all day today and into the weekend. This way they can give the focus each person deserves.
The pre-orders were so limited last year and even stores that had them told people to come first thing to the stores.— Milo

Re: buying the evo 3d - long lines today (launch day)?
Not really.. around here they pretty much handled it the same way they did last year. Its like I said on another post, the demand for this phone simply wasnt going to be anywhere near as high as it was for the Evo last year. So many other options on all carriers, so many people locked into contracts without upgrades... the lack of crowds was pretty much expected for me. The sprint store I went to was a corporate store and I think even they were surprised how thin it was. The RS in the mall had 14 pre-orders and when I checked about an hour ago they had only sold 4 phones outside of their pre-orders.

No line this afternoon at Target ($199) or Sam's Club( $175). Target had a dummy on display, Sam's didn't. Neither will open up a box to demonstrate. Sam's said they got about a dozen in and had sold half by the afternoon. This was in Atlanta.

Re: buying the evo 3d - long lines today (launch day)?
If we want to wait in line then maybe we should tell HTC to open a store only for HTC stuff. I mean think about how many apple stores are around where you live. I live in Miami, FL and maybe within 60 miles I have 4 apple stores. I didn't even buy my Evo 3D from the store, I order it online the 21st and got it the 22nd.

when i got to my local store today there were about 10 people in line, this was around 745 for the 800 open, i was out by 845. i have a friend that works there and he told me they sold 61 evo 3ds today and only half was pre orders. he also told me they had 65 pre orders but had spread the pick ups out over the week end to make sure that had phones for walk in.

No one at my kiosk at the mall when I got there at 8:45. He said there were only a few preorders and they had about 15 in stock.

Re: buying the evo 3d - long lines today (launch day)?
Walked in at 8:30am this morning (30 minutes after they opened) and waited ~15 minutes to be helped. Walked out 15 minutes later with my new EVO 3D. Couldn't have been easier. No lines, no frustrations.
I certainly don't miss being an Apple user on days like today.
