Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
Thanks for the tips about the virtual keyboard. I calibrated the keyboard. Now how do I enable Swype on the phone. Isn't it already pre-loaded since I see all the Swype options under settings? Thanks.
I also see a trace function in the HTC keyboard and checked it off, but it doesn't seem to work. What gives? - 09-09-2011, 04:48 AM #328
Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
I dont mind swype but it's just a pain to stop, correct things if wrong, insert punctuation, etc.
With the keyboard in general, if something's not in the dictionary and you type it manually, the correction gets inserted automatically. For most things, thats great and its the purpose of autocorrect, but other times it's just a pain in the ***, esp. if you type something wrong, try to go back, and the correction gets put in again.
I'd definitely rather have a physical keyboard. - 09-09-2011, 04:53 AM #329

Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users

Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
I'm planning to purchase and install a larger microSD card (16 or 32 GB) in the Evo 3D.
Do you have any suggestions, recommendations before I do this?
I want to make sure that all of the data gets properly transferred from the pre-installed 8GB card to the larger card. Thanks! - 09-30-2011, 01:07 AM #334
Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
Copying and pasting the files from the 8 GB micro SD card to the new SanDisk 32 GB micro SD card work well. I'm loving my Evo 3D though it's a tad big for my pants pockets. I do like how solid it is though compared to the subpar hardware of the Pre minus. This phone is FAST and now has plenty of storage space thanks to the new 32 GB card.

Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
Well, there are a large number of WebOS users out in the world, and the majority of them are on Sprint and using the Pre -. That being the case, the people who stick with webOS are the early adopters who love the software and can see potential in it(see their homebrew community, one of the best communities out there.) This also means they bought their phone in June 2009, which lines them up for a 2 year renewal at the release of the 3VO. When HPalm came out and said no Pre3 for sprint(or any US carrier), many sprint Pre users decided to jump to the world of android, and directly to the flagship product of the 3VO.
Even with the iPhone 4S coming out, most WebOS users prefer Android to it because of it's openness, just like WebOS, which is another reason they will be eyeing down the evo 3D.
And of course it is common courtesy to extend to AndroidCentral's sister site, PreCentral(which happens to be the #1 hub for homebrew and development).
And of course it is only a matter of one extra line of text to ignore if you don't care about it

Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
Dan!
I've moved over as well (was Treoinmypocket at precentral because it used to be TREOcentral - ha).
Today I pick up my HTC Thunderbolt and came here looking to see if Geostrings, Music Player Remix, etc. were available here...glad to see you are working on QuickPost already.
For me personally, I hope to see an Android version of Geostrings - I LOVED THAT APP! Hell, I even PAYED for it - haha.
Good luck in the Android world (to both of us) and I will eagerly await your further developments. - 11-13-2011, 11:42 PM #342
Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
I missed my Pre, but after playing around with my 3VO for a while, I've found a ton of apps that make the Evo much more user friendly. I don't too much care for HTC Sense and there are a bunch of apps (SwipePad, WaveLauncher, LauncherPro) that give it a much more user friendly interface. Nothing is going to be exactly like the Pre's swiping gestures, but I'm willing to lose out on that for what I gain in all the 3VO has to offer. WAAAAAAAAYYYY more apps, memory card slot, vast increase in processing power, bigger screen, better camera, the list goes on and on. The Pre was an awesome phone, but I've been lagging in the phone area for two years and now that I have a current phone, I realize all that I've been missing.

Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
I agree... love my pre but Android opened my eyes and I became WOW'ed with the app selection... i have over 100 but I still find new and interesting apps.

Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
Tried this method on my VZW Palm Pre Plus - cellbrite export came up but then crashed with this error:
Could not create temporary file!:
{errorCode":"ErrorGenericMethodException","errorText": "Service Method Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException"}
I have also tried Milominderbender's "SaveAllContactsViaEmail" and it is not working - spinning at the "Preparing contacts" prompt never stops. - 11-15-2011, 09:57 PM #345
Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
I'm kind of surprised that no one has developed an app that completely mimics the Pre's "cards" feature. That was the main feature about the phone that everyone loved. There are some that try, but don't really capture the way it worked quite the same. I saw a preview of Itching Thumb and that looked great, but it's no longer available for some reason. It must be more difficult than I thought to replicate.

Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
I have to admit I've been playing with my EVO like crazy and can't put it down. There is something just geeky and fun about it that makes me not want to put it down. I'm having a great time installing custom roms, side loading theme packs and etc. Hardware wise the the Evo is superb. The things I still miss from webos are cards, gestures and notifications. Andriod notifications are ok, but I just wish you could swipe away like in webos but I read that will be enabled in ICS! Task manager is ok but I agree that cards is such a killer feature that I wish future Andriod versions incorporate that somehow. A few apps like Dophin browser incorporate gestures, and wish there was more of that through out the OS. But I do like old school graffiti app though which brings me up to ALL the APPS!!! WOWZEEEE!! I love the andriod market...
There are soo many apps to try and download that I wish you could customize the app drawer like webos app launcher with specific page names so you could organize for example a page for games or utilites etc. As far as sense, I kind of like it and appreciate all the widgets...
Anyway going to try overclocking next...having too much fun with my EVO!

Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
Welcome brother, always nice to see another webOS convert come to the dark side. I agree, I had a hard time putting this phone down when i first got it, and still do. It has a geeky, modding charm that webOS never had. WP7 and iOS also does not have it. It's why if webOS managed to succeed I would have still switched to Android for the geek factor, and yes the APPS!
webOS is dead. Long live Android.

Re: EVO 3D Support Group For Palm webOS Users
As much as I love my Evo, Android, and all of the apps, there are still thinks I miss from webOS. Which I guess is why I'm so excited about ICS; Android took the swiping and a version of card view, and integrated into a better OS! If I ever leave Android for some reason, I hope I can find a smartphone OS as natural to use as webOS, but android has my heart for now. I'm just curious to see what HTC is gonna do to this ICS update.
