how to use gchat

now how do i use gchat (google chat) on my evo 3d? please dont tell me that the pre had a better gchat integration

I'm slowly figuring it out myself, also coming from a Pre.

Maybe we can help each other, I think I somewhat have my issues ironed out. I was having trouble with friends not showing up on my lists at all, but I knew I had them as contacts, since they showed up on my gtalk on my PC.

I've since added their names to my contacts lists and put in their gtalk information in the contacts under "IM" make sure you change that to Gtalk, bubble to the left and add the @gmail.com to the end of, then it asked me to send an invite to them and they started to come online one by one.

Not sure if this is your issue or not.

weird, so i have to add them. google didnt just say that it was there? lol thats a first. i guess i have a little word to do. i figured out how to download movies to the phone and play them without doing anything like converting... but the gchat thing stumped me haha

Yes, even though you have the people as contacts, you still have to send them a request through gtalk in order to talk with them in the app

Does video chat work with the evo3d thru google talk like the nexus s does?

Currently no. That's a 2.3.4 feature and the E3D is running 2.3.3. Once roots comes out and roms are created we'll have video chat back on gtalk.

Or whenever the the EVO 3D gets 2.3.4.

Since we're on the same note as video chat, anyone know if video chat is available over Skype?

Ironic that the Pre merged the Text/messenger app with gtalk. On this phone I've been using messenger for text and gtalk for gtalk. Yet another app running, oh well.. guess messenger doesn't do gtalk.

ya i dont get it, how the pre had it laid out just a little better. but maybe thats why the hardware sucked lol
