Well, due to the fact that Sprint wanted to screw me on my Evo trade-in for a GS3, I decided to keep my Evo LTE and root it.

I know, I know. I had the same reservations about rooting as many of you. But PLEASE BELIEVE ME when I say the process is simple as ever!! Have you ever installed a printer drive on your computer? Rooting the Evo LTE is like doing that. Its very very simple, and you'd have to be a complete MORON to screw it up. I have never rooted my phone before, and I've been using Android for 2 years. I finally took the plunge and was amazed at how simple it was to root this phone. I am even more amazed at how the little settings I tweaked dramatically enhanced the performance of this Evo!! No more sense reloads, better multitasking, I could not be happier. (wait, I take that back. I could be happier-- if Google Wallet was working.... arrgggg!!)

All I did was follow the exact instructions from the videos posted here:
How to Root/Unroot HTC Evo 4G LTE! [Windows/Mac/Linux][One-Click] - xda-developers

Everything you need to root your phone is there and its a piece of cake... Also, if you need to unroot, there is an included app installed in the app drawer that makes it easy to unroot if you ever need to.

After it's done, go ahead and play with it. Nothing has changed. Its the same phone, same UI, same Sense. Now, you have completed half the process of improving the performance of this device..

next thing is to go to Google Play and download Rom Toolbox Lite. It only works for rooted phones. After it's installed, open the app, grant it permission to access the root directory. Then slide over to the Performance section and scroll down to Auto Memory Manager. Get a pen or pencil and write down these values in case you want to return these to their original values:

Use the sliders for each section to slide to the following values:

Foreground Application: 10 MB
Visibile Application: 12 MB
Secondary Server: 20 MB
Hidden Application: 40 MB
Content Provider: 40 MB
Empty Application: 64 MB

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that you must also tap "apply on boot" Thanks to Cloak.n.dagger for pointing this out

Then tap "apply". If you ever want to play with these values on your own, remember that you have to arrange them in a pyramid. That means that each value must be smaller than the one below it, or you will notice apps crashing.

After doing that, tap the back key, and tap on "build.prop Tweaks".

Again, get a pen or pencil to write down the values if you want to go back to the original ones.

use the slider to adjust the VM Heap to 75m. DO NOT TOUCH the LCD Density.

Tap on "apply" and the phone will ask to reboot. Go ahead and let it reboot.

After that, you are done. You should see multitasking much improved! Also, you will not notice anymore Sense reloads. I also noticed a big reduction in lag. Temple Run no longer lags nearly as much. NOW THIS IS THE PHONE I WANT IT TO BE!!!

Good to hear rooting solved majority of your issues and you were able to hold on to your EVO!

hows the rooted hotspot feature with a evo lte, def wud love to hear some feed back on that

works like a charm. I had some problems initially getting it to work, but it was a problem with the settings. Make sure the Device Profile is set to "Generic ICS", "wifi Encryption" is enabled (And set the SSID and passphrase to your liking), "wifi-driver reload" is checked, "Change LAN" is checked, "MSS clamping" is checked, and" Routing fix" is checked..

After that, it worked extremely well!!! I have used it twice and it has not disappointed.

I rooted the day I got the phone (yesterday) thanks for these settings. I'll definitely give them a try.

Just curious- Where did you pick up the above settings recommendations? Xda?

As for rooting- like many people, I am not afraid of rooting, that is easy. I am concerned about what happens AFTER that. When I rooted my Evo OG, no more updates, and it was not possible to unroot it without wiping the phone completely. Never bothered on the Evo 3D. Does that "unroot" app you mention (and in the article) just perform a temporary unroot, or permanent? Does it require wiping the phone??

They are showing the RUU, which is a complete wipe, and apparently the only way to remove the "TAMPER" flag.

I figured I would wait until after the first update, to give HTC a chance to fix things. We shall see how patient I am (or am not).

Welcome to the club! Proves the point all along that all of those issues are easily solved in software. It's amazing what a few devs can come up with in their spare time to fix and/or improve on what a tech company's full-time dedicated engineers put out.
I'm test driving CM9 as I type this. I highly recommend giving it a whirl once it's ready for prime time.

For those wondering, I think The OP got the general method from this thread http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g-lte/555765-any-issues-multitasking-htc-evo-4g-lte.html, post 80 or so.

I'll let him chime in with any other sources and credits.

In the video, The guys says its a permanent unroot, but I'm not sure since he also says that he has rooted and unrooted his EVo a few times already.

The settings I got was from a forum on AndroidForums on the following thread:

http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g-lte/555765-any-issues-multitasking-htc-evo-4g-lte.html

The last setting for VM HEAP, I came up with on my own after reading about what its for. It has not given me any problems and as of now, I see no reason to change it. There is a danger in setting it too low, though. Ram intensive apps will crash. That's why I thought that a nice, round 75M should do the trick.

Yeah I am curious as well due to the fact that I go through a lot of phone. Get dust and dirt in earpiece mainly and have to get it fixed by sprint. I don't want to go in sometime and have them say to bad. Yes it is often I think with my original EVO in two years I went through over 15 of them. Just wondering if it will still be flagged after a unroot.

I deside to root this new evo because as long time rooter I don't know if that even sound right but anyway , I uses titanium backup to freeze apps I don't use but run all the which kill the battery quickly. The result blow me away . Rom toolbox is way worth a try it help

I wanna root but I wanna wait for a update (that is hopefully soon) to fix WiFi connection

sent from a EVO that survived a Apple attack... thug life

What effect does rooting have on the camera?

None?
Why would it affect the camera? Rooting just provides superuser (root) access to the OS. It doesn't change anything on the phone (other than to get root).

you can take off the camera sound, but thats pretty much it.

Ohh yeah i also seen something on the One X forums about uncompressing the photos on the amera to make them look better. Didnt see anything for the LTE though...

I should have asked what effect would rooting and loading a CM9 ROM have on the operation of the camera?

Now this is what I'm curious about and why I haven't and won't load any ROM's. I need to be sure that I will not lose the awesome camera features.

Thanks for the rooting info, Starfleet. Your post gave me the will and confidence to root my phone. Not now, but I will this weekend. :)
