Re: Galaxy Nexus vs HTC Evo 4G LTE; Why the Evo?
I got the Galaxy Nexus and will keep it over the EVO 4G LTE.
I came from the old EVO 4G, which had little problems, typical for any HTC I owned. Little things like the power buttons failing etc on several of my last phones. So no more HTC products for me.
I will say the screen on the new EVO LTE is amazing and is the only selling point to me over the Nexus. I prefer the Nexus for so many reasons but here are a few of them.
Removable battery.
Usable large internal memory not partitioned (only 2GB for apps on new EVO)
Un-skinned (No sense) pure Android.
A more direct and better chance for updates.
Form factor / layout.
I will say this both my Nexus phones have just worked, and worked great. I get the same signal as my old EVO and my GPS actually works better. My battery I get 9-14 hours of moderate to heavy use. Of course you can change to a new one if you had to, it's an option. The HD display is amazing, and while it may not be quite what the new HTC's have it is very close and top of the line. I also find the camera to take very impressive pictures, even while shooting video. Now HTC has drastically improved the cameras as well but this 5MP (for a phone) is amazing and unless you have to have the extra mega pixels for print work or super enlargements I'm happy with this shooter for now. The pure android has been great and many of the quirks I hated about sense are gone. I just feel it makes things cleaner and more snappy when your not re layering things. The Nexus is very fast with very very few spots where you might see a lag.
I think most complaints like a lot of things in the tech world are user inflicted. Like a PC if you have the wrong apps doing the wrong things it will slow down and effect speed and reliability. On a phone the battery life also becomes a factor also. Many users contaminate their phones with software or don't configure things properly and then blame the hardware. I have friends bringing phones to me all the time saying their email or GPS doesn't work, and I find out they just installed something like juice defender.
While the EVO LTE will certainly be successful I think I will be sticking to the nexus line from now on. - 05-12-2012, 12:51 PM #52
Re: Galaxy Nexus vs HTC Evo 4G LTE; Why the Evo?
I didnt say it was "original". I said, "Even if we hate its origins" as in hate where it came from...as in hate Apple. Which our OS-centric attitudes have led us to do.
I said, "Out of the box"...but ok. I guess thats the difference between iOS and Android...if you want something that works pretty well out of the box...go iPhone. If you want something that you have to build to work how you want it...go Android.
"No stupid siri beeps"? Lol...how is the beep relevant? You're just riding Android now, lol. I love both systems. Both have their pros and cons. Maybe thats my problem. I see the highs and lows of both where as you seem to justify the lows of your preferred choice.
This is cute, lol. That goes both ways though...I showed my buddy the fact that I havent had to restart my phone since Ive owned it and he was ready to push his Evo 3D to the side. Lol. - 05-12-2012, 04:50 PM #53
Re: Galaxy Nexus vs HTC Evo 4G LTE; Why the Evo?
No argument that Siri is a step ahead. Unfortunately, based on what the users I know have tro say, it's not really as good as the TV commercials make it look. I hear quite a few complaint about it not understanding the users questions, giving odd answers to something it thinks you asked rather than what you really said, and just not working at all.
It also chews up a ton of data, which is a problem if you don't have an unlimited plan (not an issue on Sprint).PLEASE, when asking for help provide as much information as possible. Otherwise, it's like calling your doctor and saying "My head hurts." Your doctor can't treat you unless he knows whether you have a headache or a concussion, and we can't help unless we know what the symptoms are and what you did before they occurred.
If I've helped you, please press the Thanks button.

Siri may be a gimmick but apple users swear by it which is all that really matters.
As for a Nexus vs EVO..I'm a sucker for look and feel so I don't need the greatest processor or the best anything. I don't buy 3000 dollar PC's and so I won't buy the equivalent spec beast in the phone world. Happy medium between style, function and the hope of faster updates at least in GSM.
Love curved glass and don't want a slab ever again too!

Re: Galaxy Nexus vs HTC Evo 4G LTE; Why the Evo?
Well Im torn on this subject too. My current phone is painful to use and my upgrade is thursday. Now I have played witht he galaxy nexus and its an amazing phone, but I have had alot of issues with samsung in the past. My current breakdown of the phones:
HTC EVO 4g LTE
Pros: Everything! This is pretty much the perfect phone (for todays standards) and I have had a great track record with HTC on all my phones through them. Plus the support and accessories are amazing!
Con: Battery built in. This is a HUGE con and I mean HUGE! Sure the LTE radio is integrated into the CPU which is great for battery life. But phones of this caliber are notorious for bad battery life. Granted some days I can carry a small battery pack, but I cant every day and having my phone not last is not a good thing.
Galaxy nexus
Pros: Pretty much everything. The phone has been a blast to use at the store (and those floor models are notorious for lag and issues). I love the flow of ICS and never had an issue with touchwiz although Im a big sense fan.
Cons: Battery life, build quality, non expandable storage. The battery life has always been an issue with samsung phones, but the ability to get an extended battery or carry extra batteries is a plus. As always plastic materials. While the phone feels fine and seems durable, the plastic is a bit of a turn off. The lack of expandable storage isnt terrible but still a definite issue since Im down to 2GB of space on my current 16GB card which means Id fill the space of the galaxy immediately.
Conclusion:
If the new evo had a replaceable battery it would be a no brainer, but being limited to how long I can work away from a charger and/or having to lug around a battery pack is a big concern for me. Now if the new evo can get a full day on moderate to heavy use then its not a concern as by midnight I will have it on the charger. Hopefully the battery reports will come in soon so I can preorder or get the galaxy. My mobile device timeline:

Okay, here's the thing. I rarely use voice actions, rarely. I just couldn't see myself using Siri.

Re: Galaxy Nexus vs HTC Evo 4G LTE; Why the Evo?
I would advise you to inquire about radio signal issues (or hopefully lack thereof) once people actually start using the EVO LTE. Having returned the GNex yesterday due to really poor 3G signal, weak wifi, awful 3G to wifi handoffs, and poor GPS, that's the most important thing that I'm watching for the EVO LTE early use. In day to day use, the Sense and ICS experience on either phone should be pretty great, but the radio issues with the GNex (not just Sprint, but read about them on the Verizon forum too, and certainly prior Samsung phones had signal issues) were a dealbreaker for me. I really really enjoyed using the phone, though, and was bummed to return it.

^Samsung radios suck. EVO LTE will be way better.
The only people that don't have signal problems with Samsung phones are on Wifi, don't talk much, don't travel or are liars, simple as that. - 05-13-2012, 05:46 PM #64Sent from my blah-blah-blah using blah-blah-blah.

Re: Galaxy Nexus vs HTC Evo 4G LTE; Why the Evo?
I thought this was gonna be a tough choice for me, but being able to just swap batteries instead of being attached to a chord is awesome. On top of that, all my memory is a single 32GB amount instead of being split between the on board and SD card. Plus I am hoping that Sprint will get the new Nexus first and I can use my parents upgrade to get that in the fall. Since Sprint didn't block wallet and they released the Gnex as a pure model as well as pushing ICS to their NS4G quickly I hope google has taken a liking to them.

Re: Galaxy Nexus vs HTC Evo 4G LTE; Why the Evo?
i'm considering getting a gnexus out of contract (had on on verzion) after having owned my evo lte for about four months now....but given that this is a pretty old thread, i wonder what you're thoughts are on the massive signal issues that seem to plague the evo lte in reference to the galaxy nexus....
