    Default anyone care about 4G?

    Hi,

Everyone's talking about the customs fiasco, the battery, and its arrival. I read it will not support wimax and LTE is far away. So this new flagship phone only works on 3G? Well there is my problem. 3G on sprint is laughable compared to Verizon. I get very good 4G where I live and if the new Evo won't get it then I have no use for it. Besides I am not a fan of ICS, I have it on my thrive tablet and my girl's nexus phone. I really dislike the screen previews feature. And I'm a huge user of the search button on my original Evo.

Anyways, is anyone not thinking about 4G? What is Sprint saying about this? Seems to me like this was rushed.

I have OG Evo and don't use WiMax very often. I get decent speed where I live on 3G so I'm not too worried. (~0.8Mbps - 1.1Mbps) Once LTE gets activated, it'll be an icing on the cake but I usually have my phone on wifi when I'm home anyways.

I never had 4G WiMAX in my city so I'm ok with it. I would have switched to Verizon though if they had a HTC One X device on their network, because their 4G is REALLY good here.

Laughable? Well at least our phones are capable of 4G, what about all those iPhones on AT&T and VZW, how many of those are you making fun of because they can't do 4G.

Go troll somewhere else, we are all well aware of these limitations as evidenced by the 30 other threads that other trolls have started.

I have probably used maybe a couple hundred mb's of data on Wimax in the 2 years I've had my evo. Almost everything I do is either WiFi or 3g. Wimax kills your battery so fast its not worth it. Maybe LTE will be different, but I suspect I will use it sparingly as well even when it comes to my market. The vast majority of time I am just using google maps, email, browsing, etc.. and for the most part 3g works fine for that.

If its a big issue for you, the Evo and Sprint might not be for you. Fortunately we have a choice of carriers!

You're right Crimson, we have choices. And Mikey, stfu. No one is trolling. Attnt iPhone is faster than other phones on attnt. At least where I live. And I don't include phones that are not 4G capable, where's the sense in that?

Where was the sense in making this thread in the first place? This is ed and Im pretty sure there are like 30 other threads like this. Embrace the search button.

People that have WiMax care, people that don't or never would probably don't.

I have WiMax in my area and will miss it for a time but prefer an overall better functioning device.

Seems you are mostly hating on ICS anyway which has zero to do with 4G so I'm not really seeing the point of your thread in this forum other than to make yourself feel good about not being able to get this phone for whatever reason.

I have wimax in the two cities i spend most of my time (grand rapids, MI and columbus, OH), but essentially never use it. No need to have it on if I'm driving around, at home I have wifi. Only time I ever use it is when 3g REALLY sucks in downtown grand rapids (to the point where a webpage wont even load), then 4g actually is useful.

I can understand why a lot of people really care about fast data speeds (tethering, streaming at work), but I just need "useable" 3g and decent cell coverage. I got wifi everywhere else.

The only people who will say "stfu" are trolls. My point was iPhone doesn't get beat on because it isn't 4G, so what's the point of this thread?

I have very good WiMax coverage where I live, all the way (almost continuously) to where I work. So, my plan is as follows:

I will be keeping my OG activated until LTE is available in the Philadelphia Metro area. I'll forward all cell phone calls from my regular mobile number to my Google Voice number, which I have ringing to my sipgate number, which will be set up as an internet calling account on the LTEvo. I will be using the LTEvo connected to the OG Wi-Fi Hotspot when I'm not at home (and using it on Wi-Fi when I am).

The only thing I'll have to use the OG for is texting. I thought I could get around that by enabling the Google Voice integration on my Sprint number, but because it's associated with a corporate account, that's not possible. So, I'll be carrying around two phones for a few months, but there's no way I'm giving up 4G or not using my new phone.

Wow, after reading that a few times, it does seem a bit much . . .

I never use WiMax unless I really, really need contact info our a map ASAP. Too much of a battery drain.

I use the D3, Xoom & Windows 7 prof. Seems to me 4G needs more money to set up & we're paying for it. Now Red taking away the grandfather for unlimited I'm going to wifi & get away from a carrier.

I've used wimax about 10 times ever in the last year. Most of the time it was to download an audio book on audible quicker, but in reality, 1 minute on 3G would have downloaded enough to get started.

I really dont' care about wimax because it was only ever useful when I was outside. I use 3G 99.9% of the time.

I care quite a bit, and look forward to it being turned on in my area soon. I use wimax quite a bit, and would use it even more if it had any penetration into buildings. However, I do know people who have never even turned it on. I guess we all use our phones differently.

I have Wimax that comes through my office window and no available wifi at work. Therefore, I probably will be staying with the Epic Touch until something happens in my town. Then again, the camera on this new phone is drawing me more than anything else. And I get no wimax almost everywhere except my office.

I'm waiting for the reviews of the early adopters, and then I'll make my decision.

I think you raise a very valid point. LTE was a big deal to me when I got my Thunderbolt last year (April 2011). In fact it was a major factor in my purchase. Prior to pulling the trigger on it, I even confirmed Verizon's LTE deployment plans. I wasn't about to get an LTE capable device if the network wasn't going to be available soon to use it on. Otherwise, what's the point? To me, it would be like getting an HDTV and not having any HD content to watch on it. It's a waste of the device's capability.

That's a very poor analogy. A phone is still perfectly functional without 4G (be it WiMax or LTE).

Don't really care. 3G is fine for now, and I use wi-fi at home. Just give me the new hardware! :-)

I have good wimax. It comes in handy. Used it the other night with my slingbox to watch the OT period King game when I was at daughters school function.Slingbox will NOT work on 3g but works great on wimax. Thought about switching to the HTC One X but since I am on a Family plan with sprint ($180 a month for 3 lines, etc) the ATT plan would cost me at least $60 more a month. Therefore, Reluctantly I will stay with my OG Evo until LTE in LA. Go Kings Go!

I've used WiMax maybe a dozen times total in the two years I've had the OG EVO and EVO3D. I'll be interested to see if LTE provides better coverage and service, but usable 3G and WiFi are what I rely on.

Its funny...This is he reason why I just left Sprint for the HTC One X on ATT. Both Verizon and ATT have great 3G coverage and Verizon even has LTE where I live now.

Now on ATT I am getting 5-6meg down on avg. With my old Evo 3D I only get .4-.5meg down. Plus over the years Sprint has become more and more expensive. So for an extra $10 a month I get much better data speeds, No longer needing to roam (Better battery life!) and a nicer looking phone.

So it is true that the Evo LTE MIGHT be held back by the network. Not to take the devices thunder! Its still an awesome phone. But I can not say that I miss Sprint all that much. If your area gets bad speeds then I would move on to a new carrier! Not having good signal can kill off the fun of any device IMO. On the other hand if you live in a LTE/Good 3G area...Then your lucky and enjoy your cheaper plan! I know that part I will miss!

As is an HDTV without HD content, but that wasn't my point.

Geez! Haha first off I will tell you to stfu if you're being rude straight off the gate. Secondly, I'm a very huge fan of sprint and HTC phones. Anyhow, I simply wanted to see if others share my thoughts, I searched for threads alike this one and didn't find any obvious ones.

And to me speed is a big factor. But I prefer sprint over Verizon bc I like the way sprint treats me. (I had Verizon for three years). And the wimax speeds here is sufficient for me so I don't need Verizon.
