Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
I've seen the opposite as far as 3G performance goes vs OG EVO. However I did read over on S4GRU about the RF performance came in spec'd below the OG EVO per FCC documents. I also did a side by side comparison vs the OG EVO on my desktop running OpenSignal on both.
Sprint EVDO Rev A
EVO 4G LTE -87dBm (65% Signal)
EVO 4G -85dBm (70% Signal)Last edited by 541rrhse; 06-02-2012 at 09:09 PM.

Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
Same issues here with reception. Don't know if anyone out there knows, but sprint has a device that plugs into you home router called an Airave. you have to call them and complain about your signal. it's not easy to get because they don't want to give them out for some reason. But I had a friend that had one and borrowed it from him. To set it up you have to have satallite reception. My phone know gets full 5 bars of signal. it runs off of your router and changes your wifi signal into a mini cell tower for up to 5000 square feet. I hope this helps everyone out there with the same problem. My phone seems to get good service outside but not in my house. My original evo had no problem. You can also set all of your sprint phones up for this when you get it. If you get it.

Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
Same problems. My original Evo 4G was far more reliable for signal strength and data speed overall. When I'm very close to a tower and either in my car or outside, the signal on the LTE is great and data download speed is as fast as it was on the occasions that I was able to get a 4G signal on my old EVO. I'm finding, however, that in most other situations I am getting poor signal strength. In a building I more often than not receive a "No Connection" message when I try to do anything involving data and usually have 0-2 bars of signal strength. I did not have these problems with my old EVO in the same locations. I called Sprint and they did a reactivation of my phone and said this included an update. It actually seemed to help for an evening but now I'm having as many problems as before with getting a signal strong enough to get a decent data connection, if any, in many locations. I've updated the PRL and profile and have done a couple of factory resets but nothing seems to make it better. I've also kept LTE turned off. I'm still within the fourteen day window to return the LTE and get back my original EVO 4G and I'm seriously considering it unless I find out that there is a fix on the way. My wife also has the EVO LTE and we're having the same issues on her phone. I really love this phone, when it's working properly, but if I can't get reliable phone and data service it's not going to be worth it for me to keep it.

I'm in the same boat. The reception issue is awfull. I really can't stand ICS and the new menu icon. I miss the hard menu button as it was a lot easier with one hand and menu on 2.3 was much nicer.
Also, I find myself hitting the volume button all the time. When you get a text notification, it only shows the number and not the persons name in the lock screen pop u.
I want my old evo with go launcher back so bad. If its not broken, please don't fix it.
I however will miss the nice screen. That is all I like. - 06-04-2012, 05:49 AM #13
Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
Well, if you've read any of my posts, you know my story. Mine arrives back at Sprint today. Unfortunately for HTC, it looks like Sprint is about to release the SGSIII, so I won't be trying another Evo if that's the case. Especially since it seems that, instead of a resolution, more people may be experiencing what I did with the Evo LTE. For the time being, life is good now that I reactivated my Evo 4G.

Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
I had no reception problems with my OG Epic could stream music from my office in 3G. Now i can hardly get a signal on this LTE EVO. Just droped a call from my desk. can't download any apps from here either. seems to be a little spoty in places outside the office also.

Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
I'll just throw this out there.
if i type *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and scroll down half way. I can pick EcDo Only. This makes my signal go into Roam with full bars and 3G. Although at some point with in the next hour the phone reboots it's self off and the setting is back to normal. - 06-04-2012, 08:11 PM #17
Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
I'm with y'all on the reception issues. Just started today where my 3G would come and go all day (including near my airave at home). This morning I also started having issues with my wifi where it won't connect at all and in order to get it to connect I either have to go into airplane mode or restart the phone. Once I have wifi I'm good until I leave wifi area then in order to get it to reconnect I have to do those tricks. Really annoying. Going to take it back to best buy tomorrow and see what they say.

Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
Right now I'm having problems with wifi. It's weird because when I'm connected to my home router it's fine but when I go to public wifi access points the signal drops, then picks up, then drops etc. Tried setting the band settings and the wifi best performance but didn't work. Probably just a simple fix from HTC in the next week or so.

Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
I hope they get an update out quickly, like yesterday. As with everyone else places where I got signal (like at home) are near non existent. Constant flipping between carrier to roaming especially during a call. One thing this must do and it's kinda primary function. Have a D@#$ working phone!
If this doesn't get fixed with a week it's back to BB Mobile for a refund. I still have my Gnex on Tmo for a back up and that's working like a champ compared to this POS. - 06-06-2012, 07:52 PM #20
Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
I just took my EVO 4gLTE and exchanged it for another one. I had better reception with my OG EVO but today 6/6/2012 my wifi started acting up it would connect disconnect over and over and even say disabled. So far the new EVO 4g LTE is working good 3g speeds up from an average of .25 mbps to 1.25 mbps per the speed test BUT there was a lot of fading in and out to .77 mbps in the service from the mall to the hotel. I was able to connect to the hotel wifi without any problems and it has been connected for 30 min without dc'ing ... Still not happy with the 3g service but I take it that is Sprint in the Louisville KY area. I am hoping and praying that service will get better once back at home in Texas.

Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
Mine went back the second day. The phone kept going to roaming in areas where I have always had reception (and I swap to a new phone pretty much every year). Not a good omen for an HTC. I'm going to try out the SG3, but am not optimistic due to Samsung's track record of poor radios.
I can't understand why these manufacturers continuously screw up the primary function of a phone.... If only Motorola could make a sexy handset... - 06-07-2012, 01:45 AM #22

Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
I'm getting great signal. I couldn't even use my Nexus S 4G. In the same room my Evo LTE is going strong.

Re: Reception Issues evo 4g lte
Is everybody with data connectivity issues in a 1st round LTE market? I had the same problems that occurred after about a week of flawless EVO LTE performance. Sprint confirmed that they were updating some towers near my apartment (San Francisco) that started on Saturday.
Also, my signal issues completely went away when I left my apartment and went to work or even when I walked to the next neighborhood over. Also, as of yesterday, signal in my apartment is back to normal, and almost seems a little faster now (I'm getting 2.2Mb/s late in the evenings!)
I'm hoping this all just means that our LTE is coming sooner rather than later.
