Screen is constantly using 63% battery ?!?!
I has gotten this replacement EVO the other day. So far everything is smooth but I notice one thing that is constant. The screen battery usage is on average at 63%. Even after I left the phone off for a couple of minutes, immediately when I wake up, I snap a screenshot and even after I reboot the phone, it starts low then gradually jumps up to about 63%. I even disabled auto brightness and moved it down to about the lowest I could set it to while still being able to see the screen. If I use it for awhile it would go higher than 63%. I'm thinking that if this wasn't an issue, I know ny battery would be much much better. Is my second EVO another defective one? I hope not!. Attached is the latest screenshot.

Re: Screen is constantly using 63% battery ?!?!
On my old evo i noticed that if the phone is off for quite sometime and i turn it on and check battery, i notice that it would start out at around 35% then it would gradually increase. On this new on, no matter how long its been off, it shows 63% right off the bat. Never will it decrease unless after a reboot. So this is normal? - 06-20-2012, 04:40 PM #5

Re: Screen is constantly using 63% battery ?!?!
THANKS for the input. Well in that case, one reason why i exchanged to this new evo is because of the battery life. On this new EVO, the battery level remains the same as the old one! And with the old one, i could never ever achieve 18+ hours (my max was about 16hours). Am i not configuring something right here? I use live wallpapers and i know that uses a little bit of battery but still, i cant achieve that long battery life. Any suggestions, tips, etc?

Re: Screen is constantly using 63% battery ?!?!
There are millions of threads on here to address that. Here are a few common/well known/easy tips:
* Make sure you NEVER turn on "Best WiFi Performance"
* Do not load apps that constantly trigger data events
* Do not use live wallpapers
* Use WiFi whenever possible
* Turn your screen brightness down
* If you like music, then load several hundred hours on your SD card, don't stream
If you have a very weak 3G signal, it can and will drain your battery much faster. Not much you can do about that, though. Battery life will improve GREATLY after several charging cycles.Click "Thanks" and/or "Like" button on posts where someone helped you or you liked the posting. Re: Screen is constantly using 63% battery ?!?!
I NEVER use "best wifi performance"
I use mainly espn, flixster, calendar, clock w/weather update as my data searching apps on my home page.
I always use WiFi
I had screen brightness mostly all the way down but changed it back to auto brightness b/c i didnt see any major change.
Havent loaded/streamed any music on this new device.
I really really hope battery life will improve greatly after several charge cycles.
Thanks! - 06-20-2012, 06:16 PM #9

Re: Screen is constantly using 63% battery ?!?!
OK. my phone has been fully charged for a couple of minutes and i left it in the charger for a couple more minutes before i pulled the plug out. Right when i pulled the plug out i went and looked at the battery screen and i see that the screen is in the 90% range and is constant at 79%. My question is since the screen is used mostly 100% of the time, how or what will cause the screen battery to jump down to lower battery usage?

Re: Screen is constantly using 63% battery ?!?!
If you look at the battery life post and you see the pics of the screenshots of people that posted their battery life, youll notice that most of them the screen battery is on the low end..like 29-40% around there. And i do notice that there are some screens that are around my range.
take a look for yourself.

I seriously think they need to explain percentages better in school

Re: Screen is constantly using 63% battery ?!?!
I have had my Evo 4G lTE since launch day and my battery last me a good 8 hours and I make a bunch of phone calls and have my exchange server email for work on. I have noticed the screen takes some power but that's only if I have the brightness turned up.

Allow me to explain OP. The percent that your phone displays is the percent of what the battery us putting its energy towards powering. If it is a high percrnt, it just simply means that your screen might be the only thing your battery is powrring. Hopefully I cleared some things for you.

Re: Screen is constantly using 63% battery ?!?!
The percentage shown in the power setting is a percentage of battery used.
Let's say the remaining battery is 70% and total screen utilization is 63% then the battery utilization by the screen is 0.63x(100-70)= 18.9%
Check the total amount of time the screen was on and it will give you a rough idea of how much longer your phone will last.
On my phone screen is consistently the highest as I usually browse on the phone. Playing games will drain battery faster and being in a location with spotty coverage will drain battery even faster. To combat the 3G coverage issue I usually use "roam control "and just switch to roam ony mode.Thanked by 2:
