Tax on upgrade fee?
So I ended up agreeing to pay a $165 early upgrade fee in order to be able to buy the Evo. However, after looking at my bill, I noticed an extra $12 sales tax on it. I called Sprint and they told me that it was a tax on the upgrade fee. As far as I know sales tax is not charged on fees, anyone else who did an early upgrade get taxed on that fee?
I am asking Sprint to provide me the tax code they are basing this off, so far all I have gotten is that they dont know, that just what their system shows.
Ok, so I asked to speak to the supervisor, who then changed the story and said the tax was actually a tax on the activation fees (36 x 2). The funny thing is that if you do the math ($36 x 2) x 7.75% it doesnt equate to 12 dollars!Last edited by sracercelica; 06-28-2012 at 03:47 PM.

Re: Tax on upgrade fee?
It's not about the 12 bucks, if they had gave me an explanation that made sense it would be fine. But I'm tired of getting nickeled and dimed by Sprint while given bull explanations and because of people like you who like to bend over and take it by Sprint this keeps happening.

Re: Tax on upgrade fee?
Is 165 x 7.75% not $12? Yes, you were taxed on your upgrade buyup fee. And it's normal. You're not getting screwed over.
And no I don't like to "bend over and take it". I guess I'm just better at putting together an obvious puzzle. - 06-29-2012, 11:46 AM #5

Re: Tax on upgrade fee?
Reach out to your city / state tax office and ask them, if it really bothers you. But I suspect if your jurisdiction charges nearly 8% tax
they probably charge it on every thing they can. Man, I feel gouged paying 5% sales tax here.
PLEASE, when asking for help provide as much information as possible. Otherwise, it's like calling your doctor and saying "My head hurts." Your doctor can't treat you unless he knows whether you have a headache or a concussion, and we can't help unless we know what the symptoms are and what you did before they occurred.
If I've helped you, please press the Thanks button.

Re: Tax on upgrade fee?
Actually my local sales tax rate is 8.25% (I miss Oregon and their 0%) I have no idea where they are getting their rates from. Also, I have never been charged sales tax on a fee (which was my main dispute). However, like someone said, it's not worth my time. Maybe someday I'll be part of some class action lawsuit and get my 12 dollars back. People seem to think that companies are always right, until their is that one person who is willing to fight over the "only $12 dollar fee." I have been part of many class action suits (not started by me), LA Fitness, Wellsfargo, even MuscleMilk and about 5 or six more and gotten something in every single one.
