Phoenix always gets screwed by sprint. I honestly don't understand their reasoning considering it's one of the largest markets in the country.

Nashville's towers are being tested and nearly ready for a launch, so if it doesn't get launched until November the level of laziness would be of a maginitude unheard of. Over 9000!!!!

Doesn't really get anyone excited does it? Even if you're in the first launch market this Friday you'll only have a 1 in 10 chance that it will be in your neighborhood.

Not sure where you're getting 1 in 10 from? All the first round markets will be between 30% - 50% complete at time of launch. Though most of them don't show those numbers complete at this time, those are only what the OEMs have reported. Once the launch date hits (15th) we will probably see more accurate numbers.

I'm excited, but not for awhile. Everywhere near my home is scheduled lateer in the year and early next. I actually just saw a tweet from S4GRU about my actual town a little while ago.

Just curious, but if there are lte sites in the county you live in, will the network extend out further or if I didn't have 4g before does that mean I won't have lte either?

Anticipated Sites Complete at Market Launch. According to the Network Vision schedules
that S4GRU has reviewed, if Sprint launched the market in October, these are the anticipated
sites that would likely have LTE complete at that time. This would provide fairly good LTE
coverage over many parts of the market.

Sprint will eventually be able to get better coverage with LTE than it did with WiMAX. Sprint's WiMAX system was always challenged by being on the very high-frequency 2.6GHz band. That band can support a lot of users, but it has trouble with distance and wall penetration. LTE will be on 1900MHz, the same as Sprint's existing CDMA network. It'll use the same towers, too. So eventually, Sprint's LTE coverage should look a lot like its 3G coverage.

Correct, basically with sprint vision if u look on there website they'd have a bunch of little broadcasting stations (towers) compared to using pong range big station towers which in turn will mean a better coverage area

It gets even better. Eventually, Sprint will also re-purpose the very coveted 800Mhz band from the Nextel sites for LTE. This has MUCH better penetration and distance power than 1900Mhz. Unfortunately, the Evo LTE will not be able to use that frequency, but it will be a few years before this happens, so by then, many or most of the Evo LTE's will be replaced by phones that can. Then the typical Sprint phone will be able to use 3G and LTE at 1900Mhz *and* LTE at 800Mhz.

Plus, Network Vision is also upgrading the 3G network at the same time, so even that will have faster speeds, more capacity, and better distance (coverage).

So, when the status is 35% complete, does that mean that 35% of the towers that they are intending to update/upgrade to LTE have been completed, but it doesn't really matter if they have been updated because the "Launch Date" hasn't arrived? (i.e. we won't see any 4G activity until the launch date regardless of how many towers have been upgraded)

Lol! Houston is live with a whole 14% completion!!! In the mean time, none of us can get 4G. And the scheduled completion is Feb 2013. That is crappy "Go Live".

Pretty much. You may see glimpses here and there before launch date, as they test and iron out things, but don't count on consistency until the launch date.

S4GRU has stated prior that there is a lapse at times with the data being 100% current. This or course depends on when they are able to gather certain data and it's accuracy. All wireless carriers launch markets while they are building out(less than 50%), not when it's 100% completed.

At each site, every piece of equipment, every cable, every cabinet, is all replaced and completely reconfigured. Also, Sprint is deploying it over every single site in its Network. Every one.

Yes, but if you look at Sprint's coverage map of Houston, it shows the whole city covered in 4G LTE right now. Not the actual 14% of towers that are turned on. I consider that very misleading and false advertising. I would not have bought the LTE phone knowing this. Still considering taking it back and getting out of the contract.

Network Vision Sites in Houston. Sixty sites are complete in the market. All of these broadcasting Sprint LTE, but being blocked from accessibility by Sprint.

60 Live LTE Sites, but still being blocked by Sprint

Despite the good news of these live LTE sites, Sprint is still actively blocking LTE connections. They originally planned to allow sites converted to Network Vision standards to go live immediately upon completion by the OEM Contractor. This is still the case with 3G EVDO and even CDMA 800 sites when they are completed. In Sprint's original Network Vision plans, they were also planning to allow 4G LTE signals to be handled the same way. Turn them on and allow them to be discovered prior to the formal market launch at 50% site completion.

    Market Launch and Remaining Schedule

In recently seen correspondence, Sprint has decided to move up launches sooner than 50% completion. This is likely to maintain a Mid 2012 launch in markets already announced like Houston. If they waited for 50% now, it would delay launch until September. In the case of Houston, should Sprint launch by Mid July, they would only be complete with approximately 30% to 35% of all NV sites. This doesn't sound like a lot, but it would provide pretty good coverage. A little known item is not even Verizon launches on all sites in a market initially. Usually less than 50%, then filling in with more and more sites every few months.

Anticipated Sites Complete at Market Launch. According to the Network Vision schedules
that S4GRU has reviewed, if Sprint launched the market in Mid July, these are the
anticipated sites that would have LTE complete at that time. This would provide fairly good
LTE coverage over many parts of the market.

At market launch, some areas will be well covered with LTE, and others may be kind of spotty. However, more sites will come online every week until the whole market is complete. And even with one or two bars of LTE signal on your device, you will still get speeds that are double to triple that of well performing 3G EVDO in most instances.

And speaking of 3G EVDO, Sprint is not reporting any of these live Network Vision sites are currently broadcasting EVDO, only LTE. According to the NV schedule, these should have started coming online in May. However, none have shown up as NV 3G active to date. We know the new backhaul is in place at these sites since they are broadcasting LTE. That most likely means that the Switch Center is not ready for these sites. A huge backlog of 3G sites will probably come online in this market suddenly when the network is ready.

    The bottom line...

We currently do not have a date that Sprint will formally "launch" the Houston market. We believe they are targeting a launch date in July based on internal Sprint documents. However, we hope that they will actually remove LTE blocking before the launch, since there are quite a few active LTE sites that can be used now in this market.

Sprint's Network Vision schedule for this market currently has 58 Network Vision sites complete. Ericsson is plotting continual progress from here with production ramping up to a rate of almost 70 sites per month. S4GRU has poured over the schedule in this market and sees a February 2013 completion date. In our estimation of the schedule, it appears that Ericsson is slightly behind in the market. But with the rate the schedule is supposed to pick up in June, Ericsson has ample opportunity to finish on time.

For the time being, your brains are being bombarded with Sprint LTE all over the Houston market. But you just cannot connect. We hope Sprint soon lifts the blockade and allows all of us who have purchased LTE devices to be able to use the network.

Thats a lot of great but outdated information. Problem being that they announced that Houston is 'live' with less than 15% of the towers working and FAR less than 'pretty good coverage'

Coverage that is so bad its hard to find at all.

And they publish a coverage map advertising the blanket coverage of the Houston Metro area which they most assuredly are NOT providing.

A little truth in advertising and honest talk about where they really are and the real schedule would go a long way. Instead, they continue to blame users and post deceitful mis-information.
