Re: LTE Lights Up in San Antonio
Well in the NE just inside the 1604 Loop by Nacogdoches I get intermittent 4G. It will come on and then drop out or lose connection to 3G switch to 4G and then lose connection and revert back. The map says I should have coverage, but it doesn't appear to work correctly on my EVO. I tried a PRL and a profile update. Anyone having similar problems?

Re: LTE Lights Up in San Antonio
Ok I work at Stone Oak and 281 and we did a test here at work on 3 phone... EVO LTE Galaxy S3 and a Galaxy SII to show Wimax speeds.
EVO LTE: 6523 kbps up/ 2536 kbps down
Samsung SIII: 31526 kbps up/ 24563 kbps down
Samsung SII: 11383kbps up/ 1507 kbpsdown
The EVO would drop connection while doing the test... it took six times to get that good of a reading. - 07-16-2012, 10:27 PM #15
Re: LTE Lights Up in San Antonio
YEah, I'm using the Evo LTE and It only picks it up in certain spots, it's very defined. At work, I have it stationary and it is solid if I don't move the phone. I wanted the SG3 but situations worked out for the latter. This is second day of launch so they not have all towers active or maybe troubleshooting. I've been with sprint for 15+ yrs and every new launches have been a bit glitchy.

Re: LTE Lights Up in San Antonio
I was on Nacogdoches between Judson and O'Connor this evening and had a perfect 4g signal for about 1 hour and it was 10Mbps up/down. When I left dinner and drove home it reverted back to 3g.
I did stop in a Sprint store today and they told me that by the end of the week they were expecting it to be 100% with switching between 3g and 4g problems to be corrected. Why Sprint would they **** of customers by saying the network is live without it being ready for prime time will be a question for the ages. Considering I have more than 18 years with Sprint as a carrier I'm not running away as they have always taken care of me and my business, but it would be nice if they were being honest with us on the 4g rollout. - 07-17-2012, 09:17 PM

The startup process will be ongoing over the next few months. The process in SA will be ongoing until sometime in October. It started out at only 18% completion on the launch date.

Re: LTE Lights Up in San Antonio
I started seeing the LTE icon last Friday when I was downtown. It was in and out, but I didn't think of doing a speedtest at the time. I did see a difference in speed when I had it, though. But on Monday at work, toward the end of the day, I noticed a 4G icon for maybe a minute. The speeds were pretty fast, but it quickly went back to 3G (and noticeably slowed down) and I haven't seen it since. :-(
I'm wondering, why was I seeing the LTE icon on Friday and 4G on Monday? Isn't it basically the same service? Does it vary with where you are? I work in the NW part of town about 15-20 minutes from where I was downtown, so IDK. - 07-18-2012, 12:28 AM #20

I remember the launch of Wimax being similar to this. When I got my OG EVO on launch day, Wimax was just launching in San Antonio. I had to go outside in order to get a very weak signal for the first few weeks. Then after a few weeks there was a dramatic improvement. I think the LTE startup will be about the same. At least I can get it inside the house this time. lol

Re: LTE Lights Up in San Antonio
mggm100, as I didn't live in anyplace that had LTE on launch day I didn't have the experience. Thanks for sharing.
One thing I have realized is that when I am in an area with LTE the 4G indicator stays lit (does not go gray) with gray arrows unlike the 3G indicator which is gray with gray arrows. Does anyone know if this is normal behavior as I know when the 3G is lit up it means it is chewing through battery moving data and it appears that LTE is killing my battery (this could be because I keep turning the screen on to look)with the 4G/LTE lamp on, but no arrows flashing.
