Wondering if anyone else has run into this.

It's only started recently. Like in the last couple of days, but the external speaker has started sounding extremely distorted, and crackly... then today a new wrinkle: when the phone rings, or a notification comes through, I hear maybe a second or two of the chime, and then the sound goes dead. As in, everything external speaker goes dead -- ringtones, notifications, even media playback (game sounds, music, etc).

This is with the stock build, no root, no custom rom, etc. I can;t think of anything I've installed in the last couple of days that would cause an issue, unless it was something that updated, but I wouldn't know what it was offhand.

Has anyone else run into this, or have any ideas?

Yes I have had the exact same thing happen over the past 2 or 3 days. If I tapped the phone against my hand or the desk, the sound would come back on for a second or two. When it did come on, it sounded very crackly and cut in and out like a bad connection. Now my speaker is completely dead and I cannot hear any calls. This is terrible, glad to know I am not alone, not glad that people have to deal with this.
