Boot Loop Noooo! :'(

I had the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago. Also happened while switching on the WiFi. I had to do a reset. Very annoying. I had not installed or changed anything in days. Unless it came from an app update. I am not and have not rooted this phone. I was hoping at least it might help with the contacts lagging issue, but it is slowly getting worse again.

yep, same thing happened to me today. Phone was working fine, but then I got home and turned on WIFI and it started into this constant boot loop. I can reboot, and hold down the volume down rocker and it goes to some white screen with colored text, reboot, fast boot, reload bootloader etc., but none of those really do anything. Not really sure what is going on? from 1 minute to the next, phone is dead and useless, that seems pretty odd.

Anyone know what the text reboot screen settings can be used for to try and get a reboot to pass. Of course, this puppy isn't backed up, not settings, emails, corporate mails, apps, etc. Bummer, apple certainly has the advantage in this area.

update: whoops, well I guess I chose poorly at the bootloader screen. After several attempts, I chose "clear storage" thinking maybe something on the SD card might have impacted the phone. BOOM, that got me to reboot screen but EVERYTHING is just gone. No nothing, no settings, no email, apps, nothing. What a waste.

At this point, and now for only FUTURE USE. What is the best way to backup settings, email settings, PHONE settings, apps, etc so one can realistically not spend HOURS AND HOURS getting the phone setup again?

This is extremely disturbing. Not a single report like these until the last update. It sounds like something is corrupting the boot process. I hope you are all reporting these events to HTC...

Here is HTC's response;

We are sorry to hear of the issues you have experienced with your HTC Evo 4G LTE rebooting. While we do understand your concerns, internet postings regarding any issue does not mean that this is a known issue to HTC. We always encourage owners to contact us directly instead of posting on the internet so we can actually examine a concern to determine a resolution. We cannot verify the validity of an issue through forums posts. As it stands, we can provide some steps to help alleviate the issue if it occurs again after the reset you performed.

First, we can clear the device?s cache partition. This will not remove any personal data on the phone but will delete any temporary files that may be causing an issue, in case of corruption. We can clear the partition with the steps below:

1. Disable Fast Boot under Settings>Boot.
2. Power the phone off.
3. Press and Hold Volume Down then briefly press Power to turn the phone on. Do not release Volume Down until the phone boots a white screen with three images of the Android mascot.
4. Use the volume keys to highlight Recovery and press Power to select. Screen will load to an image of a red triangle with an exclamation point.
5. Press Volume Up and Power at the same time to show the Recovery Menu.
6. Use volume keys to highlight ?wipe cache partition? then press Power to select. This may take approximately 30 seconds depending on the amount of information it has to go through.
7. When done, highlight the option to reboot/restart phone and again press Power to select.

Once the phone reboots, test the phone for a day or so to see if the issue persists.

Also, we recommend keeping track of which applications may be installed on the phone as it possible a third party program may be causing a conflict with the device function.

Ugh, that's an irritating response for some reason. I did try the recovery option both times it happened to me, and it didn't do anything. Now my phone seems to be having trouble receiving calls but who knows if it's related.

Just happened to me. I went to turn on WiFi and phone locked up. Powered off and when turned back on started the endless loop of reboots. Had to factory default to get phone working again.

I had posted earlier in the thread about this problem. I had received a replacement phone for a different reason (screen cracked). All was well until I got to Thanksgiving dinner, turned on wifi to scan for a hotspot & then...bootloop :(. I'm rooted (s-off w/ lazypanda) but running stock ROM with baseband version 1.02.12.0427.

It looks like with a few exceptions, the common theme is wifi (on my previous phone, leaving wifi on would cause it to reboot for no reason). Anyone else have any ideas?

how did you get them to send you a new phone...i nhad the same issue with my original evo and they did a hard reset and well warranty ran out and guess what? it did it again...i have an upgrade so i did that and now today my phone went in to bootloop....talk to htc and they want me to keep it in safemode...cant use the phone like it was intended to...whats the point right? oh btw im not rooted...any help would be appreciated thx

I noticed after resetting my phone that Flash Player was gone. Went to Google Play and I couldn't find it there either. It was just no longer available for the phone. I side-loaded without issue. But, just made me think it was all some sort of conspiracy. Lol. Maybe not.

If you need it, I'll get it posted for you. Just let me know.

This just happened to me, hence why I'm here :(
Last thing I did was turn on wifi also. Then boom. Totally stock and unrooted

did factory reset, and it did it again today, fml!
now i have to deal with sprint, because all they going to do is another factory and tell me to run along. it happens when connecting to wifi it seems

This same thing happened to me almost a week ago. I reset it a few times and nothing, then I tried to mess with recovery and nada. So I took it to sprint repair shop, they simply reflashed and reprogrammed everything as if it was a new phone. Haven't had a problem since. I reinstalled all the aps and have been loving life since.

I never thought they would be good for something but there is always a first. :-)

Add me to the miserable stock-phone owners stuck in the boot loop. The wrinkle is that now it`s happened FOUR TIMES over the past 3 months - I`d return it but I`m traveling in Asia until the end of this week. The first time it happened after a month of ownership I had to factory reset it, but had most things backed up so was more dismayed than angry. A month ago on my trip when it happened I was able to somehow get it to reboot without losing everything via the fastboot option and then choosing something random, I think "unlock sim card" - and it rebooted to home screen with all my pics, etc intact. But the next time a month later it wouldn`t do anything but cycle reboot and needed to be factory reset - lost ALL my pics, vids, etc. that hadn`t been backed up to dropbox. That was a week ago, and then like each time before, it was working fine until I was doing a WiFi search last night (which it had done successfully dozens of times earlier), and now it`s back in the death spiral. I`m planning on just leaving it alone until I get home to NYC, but I have a bad feeling my new pics, videos, etc are all gone again, or soon will be. I love this phone when it works, but I absolutely hate this little "quirk". Seriously, unbelievable.

Add me to the club. My phone has randomly rebooted every week or so since I got it. But yesterday I turned on wifi and it went into the endless boot loop cycle.

But is this before or after Jellybean?

Add me to the list. Have been using the phone for months with no problem. Got home and activated WIFI and is started endless reboot cycle.
This is PATHETIC. Had to do a factory reset and lost ALL my contacts, message history and everything. WHAT UTTER BS CRAP of a product.
Based on all the others having this problem its CLEAR that HTC has a GENERIC HW/SW design flaw and won't admit it nor give us a better recovery menu that's even usable without doing lots of research.

This started happening to me 2 days ago.... I have performed a factory reset 4 times within these 48hrs.

As stock and opting out of the updates available after the factory reset -- all it takes is turning the WiFi switch on and my phone returns to the endless reboot loop.

It has always been stock (never rooted) and I have not altered anything on my phone (external or internal) with exception of using the Otterbox Defender case. It is now out of the case, as I was thinking it was a possible overheating issue, the phone still refuses to allow me to utilize a WiFi connection.

Keep in mind, turning the WiFi on, I am referring to never having a saved connection on my phone, the phone doesn't even have a chance to inform me that there are connections available before the bootloop begins.

For me, if I want to keep my phone alive, I just have to leave the WiFi off until I can get in touch with Sprint or HTC within the next couple days and hope for an exchange or fix better than just another factory reset.

Yep... Me too, this has been going on for awhile now and I tried a factory reset and everything. It's getting progressively worse and It's now to the point where I cant even use the phone that I pay a $90 phone bill towards. I'm going to go into sprint tomorrow and ask but I highly doubt they'll help at all. I think we should all get a coalition and complain to these thieves about this seemingly reoccurring problem to many. It's obvious that there should be some kind of recall or courtesy fix to people that are outside their warranty and pay their overpriced bills on time.
