HTC phone blocks FoxFi & PdaNet tethering?

I know 3 friends who have an HTC phone with Sprint and Verizon. Every one of them cannot install and/or use FoxFi and/or PdaNet+ for wireless tethering. Apparently they are getting an error message that says HTC is blocking unauthorized tethering. Is there any way around this...other than rooting?? I'm posting this for friends, as I have a different phone. Thanks, Casey

Because PDANet+ is foxfi and pdanet together and foxfi doesn't work on Jellybean for the EVO. You should still be able to do wired tethering though.

Just today, I tried installing FoxFi and PdaNet to someone's HTC phone by Verizon and got the following error message (see attached picture). I also tried doing Bluetooth connection, but the phone's browser redirected to Verizon's web page for signing up for a monthly data plan. I have attached a picture of the error message. Is this related to what you wrote earlier? Thanks!

I did not even see this until now! Yeah, it detects you trying to tether and wants you to pay for wireless tethering. You can still use just PDANet and usb tether though (at least you should be able to, I haven't personally tried since JB update).

Im currently using "Open Garden" to teather from my Evo to my Galaxy Note 10.1 and its been working great for me.

If you install pdanet receiver on your tablet you can send internet to your tablet with Foxfi+ via Bluetooth. I use it with my Acer Iconia A500 tablet.

Sent from my Galaxy s3 using Android Central Forums

Foxfi doesn't work with jelly bean except in tether mode, and I just bought Foxfi before the update the only way is tether but you have to download Pdanet and put it on your pc and install it and then activate tether on your phone and then do the same on your pc and you are on the web, that's how I am writing this right now. LOL it works

Download pdanet to your laptop or tablet, have your phone connected first via usb.after download the apps icon will be on your phone. All is well. Note2..Nexus7

No, all is not well. Primarily because it doesn't work with Linux. And it is also not wireless.

The latest version of Foxfi works with Verizon phones now. Hopefully they'll have Sprint and At&t broken soon.....

On my Acer A200 only certain apps can use the Bluetooth supplied data. ..

Re: HTC phone blocks FoxFi & PdaNet tethering?

Is the phone rooted? That would give you more options. On my rooted Evo LTE, I use Wifi Tether (TrevE Mod) - you have to download it from the developer's site because most carriers block it. On my Lenovo Yoga 13, I use the PdaNet+ USB tethering option (for some reason, Windows 8 doesn't like Wifi Tether).

This app was using 50% of my battery when it wasn't even running. Not sure if others have experienced this.

Since my posting this in this thread I've since stopped using it. To hard to toggle off and on.
