No need as you'll have free tethering with Sprint for a month or so. It's been announced by Engadget.

I believe, but don't qoute me on this. That the free tether for june, is only in 4G coverage areas.

Rooting shouldn't effect anything like exchange or anyother functions. To unroot shouldn just have to run the stock ruu,it should be floating around after the release.

The hardest part of rooting is usually setting up the computer... Not always, but generally. The MyTouch 3G 1.2/Fender is a pain in the arse with that Goldcard crap. I'll post a How-To after its released for everyone on multiple platforms... one for Windows, unless already made, and another for Mac/Linux people. You can prep now by getting the SDK loaded on your computers, cause, even if someone has a computerless version (i.e. FlashRec for Hero), you're still going to need the SDK and a computer to do some things... like remove unwanted bloatware. So head on over to:

and download the .zip sdk and extract it.
Windows users, put it in the c:\ drive for easy reference, Mac/Linux people, put it in your Home Folder (shaped like a house with your name on it). Windows/Linux people: install the JDK as well (windows from Sun's site given on the android developer website, linux from the website or repository if your distro has one).

yea I'll probably wait until all the bugs are out. I really just want to get wifi tether working. I use it a lot and I sure the hell am not paying another $30 a month for a tethering option.

Nevermind on the guide. You just drag and drop the file after mounting the sd card to a computer... You can also alternatively download it straight to the phone using the phones browser and then use a file manager to put it into the correct part of the sd card. By default files are downloaded to the download folder of the sd card (/sdcard/download/) but it needs to be in the root folder for this to work (/sdcard/). reboot into recovery (hold down Volume down and press power) and follow prompts and you're good.

    definitely rooting right away.

remember folks: rooting and customr roms are seperate. you can root and not install any custom software to your phone.

Question..when 2.2 comes (shortly...fingers crossed), what happens if one has rooted? Are you still rooted, just running 2.2? Does it revert to stock 2.2? Do you have to recover to stock 2.1 then update to 2.2, then root again? I am in the optimistic camp that 2.2 is coming in a month or two, so I would probably wait until that happens, but depending on procedure may do it earlier.

Thanks for any light one could shed.

just don't install the update directly from sprint and wait for a developer to make a custom rom off of the 2.2 update from sprint.

Sorry for my noob question, but I want to be sure.

By reading the guide, it says that by rooting it will

"- wipe all of your data so brace for that. backup or what not"

What exactly does it mean??? what kind of "data" will be wiped?
