Why? People always say the pre with better hardware would be perfect but the pre had pretty much the same guts as an iphone gs yet still managed to lag to hell. Build quality aside, it wasn't the hardware but unoptimized / ****ty code.
Cards are a cool gimmick but not worth wasting all that space on the home page. Besides swype up, swype over, swype over and tap is still one or two more steps than home and tap. The more apps you have open the less efficient cards become.
Android has its issues as well but a good task manager solves half of them and rooting solves the other half. Its htc's bloat that us mostly to blame and sprint.

Same situation in Android. Long press of the home key to pull up the last 6 apps that have been opened. Tap any of the 6 to maximize it. Done.
So WebOS at this point becomes less efficient then Android. Does that make more sense?

I agree that WebOS is not where it needs to be at the moment, but I am definitely keeping an eye on it, and would gladly sell my Evo when better hardware and a more mature OS arrives. Both Android and iOS have years of development on WebOS. Just give it time.

Even with advanced gestures you are still making more motions to get where you want to go. Don't even get me started on the other quirks. Lets just say they released it incomplete and they suffered as a result. Losing widgets and having a ton of wasted space on the home screen is a huge sacrifice for cards which end up being a less efficient means to move around.

android task manager sucks. webos is wayyyy better. having all the cards open doesnt interfere with finding what you need. swype up and swype through the cards. if your having trouble seeing it tap off to the side and the cards shrink down Easy and efficient. None of that Advanced Task Manager to Kill your apps... Swype up !
i would pay to have WebOS running on my Evo

I think this is one of those arguments that is hard to change minds on. In my opinion, WebOS is the most intuitive and easy to use OS of any kind I have ever experienced. This in no way is a knock to Android. That being said, I have put my feelings to the side and have embraced this new OS (to me).

I also switched from the Pre to the EVO. mainly because of the pre's build quality. my first one was fine for a long time. then the power button got stuck, and they replaced it....after that i had a new one (refurb) ever 2-3 weeks for 5 months or so.
I loved webOS. I got the evo on release day, and i really like it. but heres the deal. WebOS multitasks WAY better, and android does things like widgets and very pretty UI interface stuff in a way cooler manner. Ideally what id like to see is webOS get widgets and more apps, and Android get "card like" mulititask management, and a much better alert system.
I have an iPhone, and a pre on my desk. I also have the EVO...of the 3 the pre wins in 2 main areas User alerts and Multitask. The EVO and iPhone win in everything else hands down. and in reality I have ios4 on my 3gs and it feels "old" compared to the EVO.
All that said. the android community seems to be able to develop ROMs and such (im new here so forgive this), but cant someone modify the system to include better alerts and a "card like" task manager?

i also came from the pre to the evo and customizing the pre via homebrew app and patches are so much simpler then flashing roms and rooting/unlocking nand etc....
WebOS rocks and its the best UI i personally have ever used but there's a bit of lag compared to the evo and the snapdragon. Would love to have it run on hardware such as the evo.
Hopefully the next piece of hardware to come from HP/Palm is better/stronger/faster and WebOS 2.0 brings the performance upgrades as well as some additional features that are needed.

I am another Pre to EVO user. WebOS had (has?) so much potential but there was just poor execution over and over again. Poor hardware, bad ads, lack of support from Sprint, etc)
WebOS in my opinion much better at multi tasking than any other phone OS.
Would not be surprised if Android 3.0 had a card system like WebOS does.

i think all ex pre owners agree that Web OS is the best at multi tasking.
but I'm already accustomed to the long home screen press and installing Task OS (which is kinda like the card system in web os)
Lets just hope that Android 3.0 gets some major improvements since they now have the guy that basically built WebOS working on Android now.
