Default list of evo roms and what they look like

hello all i am new to this forum (currently change my palm to the evo)
so after doing some reading i can see that there are different evo roms that changes the theme and the performance of the phone. i was wondering is it would be a nice idea of creating a list with screen shot of what roms are available with screen shot and what makes them special.

Good idea, especially for those who love screenshots before flashing. ^_^

I also created a Twitter account that im keeping updated nearly ASAP about the newest version releases of EVO ROMs. Follow me on . I Also might start doing a "root app of the week" sort of thing if I get a good amount of followers.

EVO ROMs are expected to grow rapidly within the coming weeks, so I better hold onto my socks, and expect tweets from the latest!

I haven't been able to find many ROMs for EVO that actually work with 4G and everything else. I'm hoping that developers make some progress soon. I'm not complaining, though. I don't have the expertise to do it so I'm not about to yell at enthusiasts for not meeting my desires.

What do you guys want to see in the screens? A good custom rom will be close to some form of stock, be it sense or stock android, then people after root can flash themes and change things...

I'm running RvU and apart from a few icons (more in progress) my ui looks stock.

    hey liquidjesus
so the roms them self don't have custom themes?
but most roms have special tweaks can you please tell me what makes the one you are running special (don't want to sound that stupid but i just want to know what rom is right for me. something with a unique theme that will make the evo different looking, with the tweak that makes it run smooth. sorry still leaning the android system)

Yeah, I'm new to the ROM thing, too. I guess I'm trying to figure out what makes one ROM different from another in terms of being useful or neat. Yes, the have different pre-installed apps and whatnot, but I can install whatever I want anyway. I love the idea of endless possibility with rooting. Now, I don't know what to do with it.

Not much changes from ROM to ROM in terms of physical appearance. I think fresh uses a custom launcher bar or a certain ROM may include a special boot up animation but the real differences for ROMs are "under the hood". It's the stuff you cant see, the stuff the average person uses and enjoys without knowing their using it, thats the thing that sets some ROMs ahead of others. Generally speaking, and I emphasize the word generally, the ROM developers focus on functionality, theme developers are the guys that make the ROM pretty after the ROM developer is finished building it.

In terms of theme's, you need to know if your current ROM is deodexed or not. For example, Beezy, one of the more knowledgeable guys you can find floating around here, will make you a custom theme if you ask nicely. But the theme work he's currently doing is only for ROMs that have odex files so you cannot download one of Beezy's themes and put it on a fresh ROM because fresh's EVO ROM is deodexed.

Make sense? (anybody see what i did .... anybody? lol)

Don't worry though, if your running RvU, theming is no problem, and beezy and sprint girl will be working on some deodexed themes soon. =)

This was so informative and helpful. I'm used to forums where experienced users cannot tolerate any post that even hints at lacking sophistication. Thank you.
I will be rooting and installing RvU this weekend. It seems to me that EVO development is still well in its infancy. I'm excited by the potential. Even without having rooted my phone, I'm thrilled by the options available in android that are off limits on the iphone. I won't look back. And to think, it was Sprint that eventually got me to switch.

KSmithInNY - thank you for that break down. but the more i read the more confusing other part are to me. so far i was able to figure out that roms are basically os that can be installed on the phone for better performance (the rooting and the rom remind me of when the first psp was hacked).

    now the question...
what roms is better than the other if we the average user don't know anything that does on under the hood. (i normally go with the one with the most comments).

and like the psp hacks the firmware was performance part and withing the firmware they had files for the theme.

now when you say "deodexed" what is this a file structure? how many different things are there?

so normally the roms come first and then the themes.

I don't wanna sound like the guy cheering for the hometown but id reccomend you check out Keith & gbhils ROM HERE. Not only is it a great ROM but the support and community (androidcentral.com) are second to none. This is kind of a coke or Pepsi type of thing, it's whatever is good for you.

    Regarding deodexing ...
