Thanks to d3xn2o for giving up this method, especially since he about jumped off a bridge trying to get there! It’s time consuming, but saves some insanity!
So you've rooted with unrEVOked 2 or 3 and now you want to flash a custom rom like Cyanogen nightly builds or a future release and you just can't get it. You get a bootloader error. You should know you will not be able to flash every rom. After using unrEVOked 2 or 3 you will be rooted, but you will have a HBOOT of 0.79.0000. This is not an engineering bootloader, it will not allow you to flash certain custom roms. You will need HBOOT 0.76.2000 to do this. You can check your HBOOT version by powering off your phone, pushing power and volume down at the same time. White screen will pop up and at the top it will say the HBOOT #.
So if you have used unrEVOKed 2 or 3 and want to get back down to HBOOT 0.76.2000 follow the steps below.
Don't use this method anymore go to here and just use this http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...-1-47-651-1-stock-rom-no-adbs-check-here.html

You will now have ENG-HBOOT 0.76.2000 that will allow you to flash any custom rom you want! The last file also includes AmonRA 1.7.0.1 Recovery. Along with the newest OTA 1.47.651.1 with newest radio.
160.. You will need to flash ClockworkMod recovery if you want to restore your rom you had before, since the last file installed AmonRA recovery. Recoveries don’t play well with other Recovery’s NAND backups. You can get this through the ClockworkMod Rom Manager in the market.
