Yeah, I'm on 2.2 at the moment. My guy at sprint said he got an email at 12:15pm saying that all this nonsense about rolling back at a sprint store is just that right now. Nonsense. He was told that HTC will be sending them a rollback flash tool by Saturday.

That will be a blessing for all that are stuck on 2.2 with no root right now. So, it looks like it's still a waiting game.

They won't just roll you back unless you have an issue or have an Inside source which you do...

For everyone else they are SOL...

I went to college for computer science and HATED writing code. I got through, got my degree, but don't write at all anymore. I give much respect to all of you that do it.

I'm grateful that there is a Sprint tech that actually knows what is going on and is willing to help out.

From what he said they must fix the .3 people as they will NOT be able to upgrade to 3.0 in December.

I was aware of that, I just want to root it again since I am not a huge fan of Froyo.
No way to roll back.
Ok wow you're all kinds of stupid. Not a fan of Froyo? Wanting to root again?

The only thing you can do at this point is wait for someone to reroot 2.2.

Everyone said if you wanted to keep root you could not update to 2.2 and you all you had to do was wait a couple hours for someone to release a rooted version. That means that no, a method of rooting once you're on 2.2 less than 3 days after you get it will not be out.

Its just common sense. Everyone told you what would happen why didn't you believe them?

E-Thug Much?

Can't someone just RUU back to the original EVO then run simple root and then load up a Froyo Rooted ROM?

Not possible.

You have to wait for someone to root 2.2.

Do y'all use the term "OTA" to refer both to the .6 and .3 updates? For those of us that downloaded and installed the .3 update to Froyo 2.2 via the engadget link, are we in the same situation as those who have the official .6 update?

OTA - Over the Air

Its the Update that was pushed to the phones on the 3rd...

.3 was a download...

.6 was an OTA in my eyes...

haha

well a simple answer for this is....

If you Updated to OTA 2.2 there is no confirmed way to back track... If your root then you can attempt a RUU to Stock but i doubt it will work...

There is the complicated way where you can Place the ENG-PC36IMG.zip onto the Root of your SDCard Let the bootloader sort it out...

I didnt do the OTA 2.2 so i cant even tell you were to begin...

If your still on 2.1 PM me I'll Point you in the right Direction

The ENG-PC36IMG.zip does not work. Just FYI

you need to rename it 2 PC36IMG.Zip

It worked for me so i dont wanna hear that non sense...
I did rename it. I dropped the eng- and followed the instructions over at XD. I put the flash_image and mtd-eng.img on the root of my sdcard. Then went into shell and tried to do this
adb shell
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
chmod 755 /data/flash_image
/data/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img

Would not let me do the above and stated I do not have permissions. Which led me to believe I do not have R/W permissions. My sd card is mounted also.

So just for the hell of it I powered down and booted vol key down power button and let it find the PC36IMG.zip. It went through the install but at the end it stated older version and would not let me go any further. So maybe you could tell me what I did wrong?

I followed the below instructions

I'm an android newb, but been programming since Al invented the internet. While a few people on this board are less than super nice about repeat questions, overall this has been Candyland with respect to newbs asking previously answered questions. Try that over at XDA or some hard core programming boards. You will be ravaged repeated, your family will be stalked, your puppies kicked, etc etc.

As a general rule on ANY forum, search before you post. Chances are you will get your answer much faster than someone will reply to your post. Save the questions for when you have a new issue.

Back to the OP, this is why people want you to search first -

Yeah but it only worked for you in a crazy fury of madness:mad:...that was on a rooted device and the OTA has a root procedure as well. If he is trying to get back down off 2.2....not going to happen....yet.

You have to have root, that's what is wrong. If you do not have root the phone will not allow you to install versions older than what is currently installed on the phone.

Tatterpuff,

I understood that I needed to be rooted but it seemed when I tried to tell the poster that I already tried to downgrade using the eng-pc36img image he made it sound like I was wrong. I know there is no way to downgrade OTA rom without being rooted, and there is currently no root for 2.2OTA.
