Rooting 2.1-update1

I tried to follow the rooting guide sticky by liquidjesus, but since it's for 2.2 it doesn't apply one to one for me (which I found out I need). I'm basically looking to put on [ROM] AC-ROM-Froyo 2.2.

The guide I used is the sticky here.

Since I'm still on 2.1 I started at step 12. I used unrevoked 3 and it appeared to root but once I went into recovery mode it just sits there. I've gotten different errors from adb.

Does anyone have a straight forward guide for the following?
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband: 2.05.00.06.10
Build 1.47.651.1 CL195459 release-keys
Software 1.47.651.1
PRI 1.40_003

Or should I just do the over the air update to 2.2 then follow the sticky guide?

skip to step 12 and don't do unrevoked. preferably the last link.

If you want to get your "hands dirty" and have some fun (imo) you can do this: The easiest 1.47.651.1 root+nand unlock you'll ever see without a gui (Updated) - xda-developers

I'm liking the sound of the no gui version ... i'll give it a shot .. thanks for pointing me in the right direction
