This is killing me not being able to root!

So I just got a Evo and I was all excited because I wanted to root for Sense 3.0 and do some other things.... then I got the 2.3.3 update...

Then to find out that I can't... My feelings are all kind of hurt right now!

Did they lock the bootloader or something? I see that new Rom that makes your Evo into the Evo 3D and I wanted to tryit.

Same here, guys. Had a wimax signal issue and best buy swapped out my EVO... for a brand new (2.3.3 with hboot 2.16) one.

While it's nice to get a new (and it's not a refurb!) unit free of any scratches or dents or screen blemishes, it stinks being locked down to stock. Even if stock has improved somewhat.

Ok I have no clue to if this is at all possible doing so with an RUU but are you able to explore the contents of an RUU and take out like the bloatware? I know you can do this with a custom rom as I do this to make my own custom icons for most of my apps. Would this be possible with a stock 2.3 RUU?

I'm not to sure about the RUU, but was wondering if you could tell exactly how to do the custom icon thing...that would be sweet!!!

I'm getting my phone tomorrow...what should I do as a noob?

I've never rooted any phone before, only my Nook Color (w/Honeycomb on my SD card).

What is the FIRST THING I should do when I get it? Check what OS is on it and go from there.

If rooting is what you are wanting to do, then yes you need to check to see if you have Froyo or Gingerbread.

After that it really depends until you know that answer.
