Default Which insurance to go with?

    Hey guys,

Just curious if there is any strong advantages to the Best Buy Black Tie coverage over the Sprint TEP? I've got TEP right now and was planning on keeping it, but is the best buy coverage any better/worse? Either way I can't wait to pick up my phone @ 11:00am. This will be my first android coming from the Pre. I'm soooooo exicted!!!!

    Thanks

Since I'm just as prone to lose my phone as I am to breaking it, TEP it is.

TEP gets you a replacement in 1-2 days, BTP could take up to 30 days. Granted BTP gets you a loaner phone, TEP does not. They both have their pro's and con's

I'm not sure the exact cost of BTP, I know it's cheaper then TEP. TEP is $7 a month.

Double check, but I don't think BTP covers liquid damage or lost/stolen phones. TEP will cover both (liquid and lost/stolen) with a $100 deductible.

TEP replaces on the spot too. Had it done with a Treo 600 a few times (that was a crappy phone), and in fact, got a free upgrade to a 650 when the 600s were discontinued. Also had my Centro replaced when screen cracked - at the time it was a $30 deductible. Also had my Touch Pro replaced. All but the touch pro were on the spot. The touch pro they had to order, but they let me keep my old phone, and it was only for a day.

Recently? I know back in the day they would do on the spot. Each time recently I went in with a busted crackberry I had to wait. Maybe it was just the poopy store I was going to.

Did they change? That'd suck. The Touch Pro was replaced about a year ago. Since then, I gave it to a friend who picked up my plan/phone so I could get an iPhone. Now a year later, I am looking at Sprint and EVO.

ETF for AT&T is $120 for me - that's about an extra month of service worth, so screw it.

EDIT: Damn... Treo 600... I'm dating myself....

I hope not, I'm hoping it was just the crappy store I was going to. They have always been known as a shady store. I know they sell refurbished phones and claim they are new.

God willing I won't have any issues with the EVO, but if I do I'll take it to a different store.

I just had my Pre replaced two days ago, and it was NOT done on the spot. I had to wait until today to pick it up. Now... i'm not sure if this was because my phone was still "technically" doing the majority of what it should be or because this is Sprint's new policy, but I had to wait about 24 hours before I could get the new phone back...

    Just saying...

That's one reason to keep an old phone. I still have my Mogul for backup, for either myself, or my wife (who still uses a Mogul, but will be getting an Evo soon)

BTP did not give my wife a loaner when her pre had to be shipped out. they were gonna to charge us like $100 that would be returned once the their phone was returned. no thanks. i'd rather pay a deductible and be done with it.

Sprint insurance allows multiple claims (3 per year up to $1,000 each) while BB is over once you get a full replacement.

I like TEP as everytime I walk in with a major problem on my phone, I walk out the sprint store with a new phone. Just have to make sure you go to a corporate store that has a fix area in it. If you go to an affiliate store they have to send it off to get it fixed and I dont think they can replace then for you also.

That's true. All the time's I've been in a store, they referred me to a different store that had techs. Maybe this is why I get them replaced same day.

I was confused by the clerk at RS he was telling me about a $100 insurance cover. I didnt know what he was saying. Cause I thought it was around $5-10 a month for sprints insurance for the phone.

    yeah... I wouldn't bite.

As much as I like best buy's replacement program for big ticket items (TVs, major appliances, etc), I wouldn't do it for the EVO when Sprint can cover you. And because of that, I wouldn't touch that offer from RS with a 10 feet pole.

I took the Sprint TEP for $7 a month.

RS tried HARD to push their insurance for $59.99 up front, but as they say $1 today is worth more than a $1 tomorrow, I'd rather pay it in monthly installments.

Also RS and also BB sends the phone out to 3rd parties, which will take longer than Sprint.

My buddy had a Pre and Sprint store kept giving him new ones each time it had an issue. so I decided Sprint was the way to go.

I am trying to get my friend to get some kind of insurance. He says he doesn't need to. He refuses to get anything. I personally have Sprint's insurance.
