Gmail notifications
So lately I've noticed that my Gmail is not getting notifications after a night of sleeping. So I go to sleep for 7 -8 hours. I check my phone... no notifications. I go online and check gmail, and I have several email. I have Google sync on and everything that is suppose to allow updating.
I have an EVO 4G. I do not have WiFi at home. I am just using 3G. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the phone going to sleep or anything. Also I checked the running apps. I don't see a gmail sync.
Anyone with insight or ideas? Thanks!Last edited by mospheric; 06-09-2010 at 09:11 AM.

This might be do your sleep policy on emails. If you look in your email settings, not your gmail settings, you will see an option in there for your non busy hours and the time your phone pushes your email to you. You can find this by opening up your regular email app and going to menu...more...settings....and i think send/receive options and change the interval there. Check that out and see if that works

Hmm. Thanks for the reply. My peak times and off-peak times are both set to "as items arrive."
This does not fix the problem. I got an email for a facebook notification on chrome, but my phone never notified me that I had an email

Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks (expand, near bottom, not the checkbox) > "Enable always-on mobile data"
Make sure that's on. - 06-09-2010, 09:49 AM

Yes that setting is enabled. I sent myself a test message that I received on gmail, but not my phone.
I go to Accounts and Settings - Google -and it shows that the last time my account was synced was 20 min. ago. I sent myself the test email 10 min. ago.
Have any people had similar problems? I remember checking my running services a lot when I first got my phone (since I'm new to multitasking). I remember seeing a Gmail and a regular Mail constantly running, but I don't see the Gmail anymore. - 06-09-2010, 09:59 AM #6
I had the same thing happen to me. Then I realized that my phone wasn't set to actually sync my e-mail. So go to Settings > Accounts & Sync> and make sure both background data and auto-sync are on. That fixed the problem for me. Hope this helps!

Mospheric, yes I was getting the same problem as you, but mine would be sparadic like I would get push notifications then all of a sudden it would stop almost seemed like when I would change networks or would lose signal then after it would stop. What I have done is turn phone off then on and the notifications come back. I'm still not sure why it all of a sudden stops like that as I created a thread about this the other day. And to everyone yes I have sync on, mobile data on always, and am using normal GMail app. So any help on why this might be happening would be appreciated, it has happened twice with me so far.

Hmm I did a test and it seemed to work. What I did was take everyone's considerations into account. I had all my settings already turned on as needed, but I went through and flicked each one off and then back on. Then I turned off my EVO. I turned it back on. Waited a few min. Then sent myself a test message. So far so good!
yanks4life, I didn't read your response until I posted! Yes this seems to fix my problem at the moment! - 06-09-2010, 10:38 AM #9
Are you using the Gmail app? Why not?

I have the same problem. Got my N1 yesterday.
My Email app is set for auto update after every one hour while I assume Gmail app uses Push.
I don't get instant notifications. I receive them randomly, sometimes after few minutes and in case my device is locked I don't get any kind of notifications.
I am on my Home Wifi and i have Background Sync and Auto Sync option ticked with Wifi sleep policy set to "Never".
Any help would be appreciated as notifications are very important to me.

So it seems my Gmail notifications have stopped again and again it seems like its from the phone losing a signal or what not. So this time like the weather app and even the battery usage did not refresh, so i tried unchecking auto sync and checking it back and everything synced back but Gmail still is not notifying me of new mail when I get it. I am going to be very upset if everytime this happens I have to restart the phone to reactivate autosync when it gets out of whack. Anybody else have any ideas???

I don't think so as it comes and goes, I think I might have to explore other mail options now as I can't keep reseting the phone everytime it stops pushing mail to it for Gmail. I don't understand what is going on, as I never had this problem with my pre! I am getting very frustrated.

It's probably a push issue with Gmail's servers.

Well if its a push issue with Gmail's servers, then why don't I have a problem with using Thunderbird as my mail client on computer. I get gmail emails instantly through Thunderbird that pushes it so I don't think its a push issue.
