Default Why is my Evo 4G Lagging like it's a Droid Eris?

Ok I am coming from a iPhone 3GS and have been with the iPhone since 2007. I decided to get the Evo 4G because I felt the specs on this phone rocked and could handle multitasking and everything else smoothly but my Evo has been lagging and I don't know why. I will go to the phone book and click a name and it will take a couple of seconds and i will end a call and it will not respond for a couple of seconds and if i tap it again quickly it calls back because of the lag, it's weird and frustrating. Also, some screens just go blank in pandora and youtube, i'm using LastFM and I click next song and nothing happens, and I'm on Wi-Fi....what gives? This phone is supposed to be top of the line and a iPhone 2G is more smooth, any advice? I don't want to go back to the iPhone but this lag is horrible.

different operating systems perform differently, doesn't matter the specs.

I have both a 2G and a 3GS and I can tell you right now that something's wrong with your phone. Have you done a hard reset yet?

Sounds like CPU is pegged. download an app like that and check if your cpu is being used at or near 100%

I did a hard reset and only installed the ftp app to check how much RAM is being used and its still over 200mb, it was over 200mb before I did the hard reset too, I don't understand what's going on. I reset my wife's phone and hers is running at around 75mb RAM consistently even while running Pandora. Any thoughts on what the problem could be?

Something that uses lots of RAM is probably using too much processor. You can look through all the data in running processes, try an app that does it for you -- Spare Parts will work, then figure out if it can be fixed through the software,
    or
Just take it back in for a new one. If you're not rooted, have nothing installed, and getting that sort of performance something's not right.

You must have something running in the background that is maxing out the system.

Not sure I can help, but I can share my experience. I have had the evo since launch day, and can definitely say that lag is something I have not experienced on the Evo. me and my buddies already did speed tests between iphone 3g, 3gs, and pre, and everytime the evo did the average task faster. except for how fast YouTube videos load, the pre won there. so, in other words, something is not right with your evo.

I am also comming from a 3GS and a Blackberry Bold...and my EVO also lags behind my 3GS in terms of general speed. I have a TMZ app for both and scrolling with the Iphone looks so much smoother while the EVO appears to be "catching up"
Same as OP I also have the issue when I click people, then click a contact say "BOB" it takes around 4 seconds for "people" to open, then I click his name and it takes another 4 seconds to bring up my message box.

Also I was loving my EVO at first, now the battery is awful, as in my 3GS looks like Kevin Durant, my Blackberry Bold is Kobe and the EVO is a 2nd round pick trying to make the team...thats how bad its been! Just last night I fully charged it, took it off the charger around midnight, sent a few texts battery was still full, put it next to me not charging, locked it up and went to bed, its not 830am and my phone is back on the charger because it was red when I woke up! from being in sleep mode?!?!

My experience has been similar to the OP since day 1. I would put my Incredible up against the iPhone 3GS any day of the week, but the EVO performs about 25% slower than the Incredible IMHO. Every time I go back and pick up the Incredible, I am blown away by how much faster it is.

Ya I don't know whats going on but the experience isn't as good as I thought because of this issue. I hope I made the right choice with this phone, I'm getting a replacement once there are more in stock because I disbelief switch to Sprint from the iPhone to use a phone as slow as the Eris.
